VS 9: Insufficient memory. [15033:0:0] when playing project

Post by KrokodilGena »

I have just downloaded VideoStudio 9 trial version and ran into a problem. I have imported a DV type 1 video file (~1hr, ~13GB) into the library (this was previously captured using Windows Movie Maker), let VS detect clip transitions, edited it somewhat, and tried to play the project. "Creating file...0% complete..." progress bar appears, and then shortly thereafter a dialog box with "Insufficient memory. [15033:0:0]" pops up. The same happens when I try to output a video file (with the same exact video properties as the input file, i.e. DV type 1). If I start throwing away clips from the project and making it shorter, eventually it becomes capable of playing it -- when it is something like 5 minutes long! I have all the disk settings pointing to a drive with more the 50 GB free space. What's going on? Is the trial version cripped intentionally? This cryptic error message would be a rather inelegant way to do that. Any help appreciated.

I have once gone through the tortuous process of capturing/editing/DVD burning with one DV tape using freebee software (WMM for capture and editing, NeroVisionExpress for burning) and was hoping that VS would be a better way. Alas, this bug is telling me I am not likely to buy or use VS anytime soon. Unless some helps me!! Thanks.

I have 1GB of RAM of which vstudio.exe is using 152MB at most (VM Size for the process, Mem Usage hardly ever reaches 20MB). The Commit charge has peaked at 570MB, yet the thing says 'Insufficient memory'?!

Here are my project properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- NTSC, 32.000 kHz, 12 Bit, Stereo

And these are the input video file properties:
Microsoft AVI files -Open DML
13,230,854 KBytes
29.970 Frames/sec
DV Video Encoder - type 1
24 bits, 720x480, 4:3
112,594 total frames
DV Audio - NTSC
32000 kHz, 12 Bit, Stereo

Hi KrokodilGena, welcome to the forums..:)

All the properties and your system specs look good. The only thing that comes to mind is using Windows Movie Maker to capture it. VS may not like that (it shouldn't make a difference). The video clip may have corrupted.

Have you tried capturing using VS9? You might try capturing a short clip with VS9 to see if the same thing occurs.

Also are you running any background applications, like antivirus, spyware, internet connection while capturing, or editing?

Thank you vidoman. I will try re-capturing with VS9.
After I first encountered the problem I took care to reboot and not start any foreground applications; it did not make a difference. But I did have anti-virus running -- since it never appears to take much resouces I did not think much of it. But now that you mentioned it, it makes sense that during capture/editing antivirus could have an impact scanning all this video as it is being written to disk. Do you routinely disable AV and internet connection when capturing or editing?

Yes I do, in fact I have a hardware profile just for editing. It is set up for performance, so all the "bells and whistles" are disabled. Just the essential things needed to edit. I reboot to this profile anytime I am going to edit video.

Read the 3rd post down in the following thread, found in our General Information section. There is a lot of good information there, that was put together by Sjj.
