Codec TrialActivation has a Serious Error

Post by Becky Rose »

Hello,

I couldn't find anything related by searching but i'm new here so please redirect me if i've missed the obvious.

OK, onto my problem. I just today installed Video Studio 9 SE DVD which came with my new computer bits a month or so ago, i'm not sure if it was with the graphics cards or the motherboard but I was delighted to see it included as I used to be a Media Studio Pro user back in the days of the Matrox Rainbow Runner, anyway I digress...

I installed first time without apparent problem, but in the tinkerings of getting my output and capture device setup my computer (which has never so much as even hung let alone crashed) started hanging and black screening and blue screening with memory dumps, I think it started when I had the S-video in connected back into the S-video out ... i'm not pretending this was accidental, but it certainly wasn't what I was trying to do ! lol.

After this I couldn't do anything on the computer without it crashing so I used the Windows restore point to go back to yesterday - and all was well and my system started behaving again.

The problem I now have is after reinstalling and launching VideoStudio I get the error message "Codec TrialActivation has a serious error". It gives me an OK button which after clicking just returns me to the desktop, I think this might be related to the 30 day trial of an mpeg-2 codec which it nagged me about after I first installed.

In any case I would like to start using the product, and at the moment I cannot load it up. I have tried repairing the installation from the add/remove programs control panel.

I read the sticky and it said to include all the gear, so here goes...

Full System Specification:
1 x Asus A8N Premium Deluxe Sli Motherboard
1 x Dual Core 3800+ AMD Processor, 1mb L2 cache
2 x CAS2 1gb DDR RAM (800-880 MhzFSB)
2 x BFG 7800GT 256mb Sli Graphics (1030Mhz)
2 x RAID-0 Striped SATA2 Hitachi Desktar 160mb Drives
1 x Wireless 802.11g Network Card
1 x UDMA(2?) DVD+-RW

External Bits
1 x Hitachi CM620ET 17" Monitor
1 x Technics Amplifyer / 2 Wharfedale Speakers
1 x Thorn VHS (PAL) Video Recorder (from composite of graphic card number 1)
1 x Commodore 1084S Video Monitor

Software:
Drivers & Hardware associated accessory files - all good
DirectX 9.0c
Windows XP Professional SP2, updated
Paintshop Pro 7
Blitz3D 1.94
Avant Browser 10.1 (build 40)
Discreet GMax (unsure of version, actually i'm not sure i've installed it yet)
Live for Speed S2 (ok ok, so it's a game)
Several minor applications of my own devising, non memory resident.

I am reasonably literate technically and should be able to understand most technical answers and jargon.

Thank you in anticipation of any replies :).

Try doing a clean uninstall then install again.

CLEAN UNINSTALL OF VS9:

1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder.

Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from control panel Add/Remove programs.

Delete following folders

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc

C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.

2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system

4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
(If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove
Program, please do point 5)

6) Then reinstall UVS 9 again

Thank you Lance I got past that error message and reinstalled.

Unfortunately after going to capture again my system became unstable, either Video Studio 9 doesn't like SLi graphics or my video encoding codec doesn't (which I actually doubt as of course that came with the cards).

I've given up on Video Studio for now, I really don't want to mess my system up - aside from doing this it has never crashed - I hope it hasn't effected my machine permanently.
