Hi All. I'm at work and don't have the chance to install and try out the demo of the newest Moviefactory. I'll also be running around for the next couple of days so I won't get a chance to try it out for a little while.
Can anyone let me know if the newest Movie Factory let's you compose an HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Production and save the project file. I know you can't burn it yet because of lack of HD/Blu Ray burners and media but I was hoping i'd be able to make my HD projects and save them now, and then when the equipment comes out, i'd be able to burn them when it's ready.
What format should I be saving my HD Edited video in? 1080i .m2t? Or 1080i program stream? What does Movie Factory look for? Or do we need that 'burning pack' which is not out yet, to even see any of the hd/blu ray functionality (composing the lay out / burning) ?
HD-DVD / Blu-Ray
MF5 will write HD DVD/Blue Ray to a hard drive in either Folder or ISO image, just like the other versions of Movie Factory, it will do HD or standard DV.
MF5 allows you to save HD or SD video in any format you want, you can down convert HD or up convert SD.
You can also capture HD from MF5 using a HD camera or HD TV caputre card.
If you plan to save your projects to a hard drive I reccomend you get a large external hard drive to store your HD video on. One minute of HD video at 1080i/60 uses about 200MB of disk space.
You don't need a burning pack, everything you need is in MF5 except writing back to tape.
I think that once HD DVD/Blue Ray writers are available Ulead might realease patches for their burning engine.

I edit my videos using Media Studio Pro 8 and currently author with MF4. I was unsure of what format I should be rendering out of Media Studio Pro 8 but I figured whether be it .m2t (transport stream) or the 1080i program stream, i'd need alot of hard drive space. I picked up 4 320 gig Drives to prepare because I have demo clips (and many more upcoming) that are about 5 mins each that I want to archive in HD and eventually burn onto an HD demo disc.
So Tyamada, correct me if i'm understanding your message wrong but based on what you said I can:
---Create an HD DVD Project in MF5 which will contain my HD Clips that I burned in MSP8. I can then burn the project onto my hard drive (in either folder or ISO image) and when Blu Ray or HD-DVD burners (and media) become available...i'll be able to take the folder or ISO image and burn that onto the disc?
If that's the case, that would be great! Also, do you suggest writing the files into folders or as an ISO Image? What are the pros and cons of one way or the other? Thanks again!

MSP 8 is not a disk authoring program, it is a video editing program therefore you have to create your disk compliations in MF5. Since burners are not available for HD then you have to create a ISO or HD DVD folder to keep your cretions in.
You are correct about burning later with Movie Factory 5.
The only reason to render a HD clip to M2T is to be able to write it back to tape.
When you create a file to wirte to HD it should be in program stream, at any format you want (ie 1080i or 780p).
MSP8 and MF5 capture from HD in program stream(extension mpg) unlike other programs, they capture in TS, TP or M2T.
Program streams with the extension of TS or TP are usually from HD TV capture cards where the M2T files are usually capture files from a HD video Camera.
There doesn't seem to be any difference in the burn forlder or iso image because MF5 allows you burn a disk either way, unlike other disk writing software.

Once HD DVD/Blue Ray burners are available Ulead will release a burning pack for the burners, to be notified that the pack is available sign up for the notification.
