MF5 bugs fixed or being fixed?

Post by snoops »

My experience with other companies has proven that it is wise not to buy software before known problems are fixed. Often the fixes never came even though promised, or they finally came but only in a new version that had to be purchased once again.

With that said, I'll buy MF5 when these bugs are fixed or when it is confirmed that the full non-trial MF5 no longer has these basic problems. But not before. Hopefully someone in Ulead marketing is reading this post, with enough leverage for reaction:

Menu audio background trim and fade:
Whenever "Customize" is used to modify a menu setting, the audio trim settings (mark-in and mark-out) are lost. So the background audio trim has to be done again every time. Only the fade-in and fade-out options are remembered.

Menu-out transition MO_03 (and others?):
It previews OK but it doesn't render the "thumbnail" clip in the SmartScene menu, and even worse: it does 2 background fades in the final output instead.

Hidden menu buttons suddenly appear when navigating the menu on DVD:
Buttons that you choose to hide suddenly appear (highlighted) when navigating the menu of the final DVD. If objects are hidden, they should be inactive! Example: a Home button in a SmartScene menu. The preview also exhibits this behavior.

Hi Henry,

Just to let you know that Ulead is checking the issues now.

For the MO_03 issue, can you provide more information?

For 3, I was told it's by design. It can let user have some easter egg on the DVD menu, just like the Lord of the Rings DVD. If you do not wish to see the highlight of hidden button, just delete the button in the Setup Menu stage.

Hope this helps.

How do you 'delete' items from the menu. I have only just downloaded a trial version of MF5 but was intending to buy it when I can get it in the shops. However as far as I could see you could only 'hide' menu items and then when you previewed it other things would appear like some silly green flowers that hadn't even been visible on the menu design page. I was hoping the manual would explain this.[/quote]

Hi H.T.

OK, let's try this simple example... remember this is the MF5 trial (5.0.0000.0)...

MO_03 issue:

Start a new DVD project (I used 4:3, PAL, 2-pass conversion, Do not convert compliant files).
Add a small DVD-compliant MPEG2 video clip, and add the audio with the Enhance Video option.
Do not add chapters (no extra chapter menu).
Select Thumbnail Menus from the menu gallery and choose Edit.
Choose MO_03 for Menu Out.
Preview is OK: When you play the clip, the preview correctly fades the thumbnail, then fades the background.
Now burn to DVD folder (don't need to burn DVD) and the menu will be rendered.

Play the DVD from folder (like with WinDVD).
There is a hard cut of the thumbnail (no fade) and the background fades twice! That's wrong.

Oh, and as Jane already said, I cannot delete any items. They can only be "hidden" until selected, which is when they highlight.

Sorry about the "delete" thing to let you get confused.

I have found a workaround to solve the 3rd issue. Let's assume we have 2 video A and B in a DVD MF project. To show video A only in the DVD menu, we can:

1. Multiple select these 2 video clips and clicks on Join Video in the Add/Edit Media step to combine them.
2. Select the joined video clip and then clicks on Add/Edit Chapter, you should see 2 chapters appeared in the Add/Edit Chapter dialog box for the combined video.
3. Select the chapter you do not want to see on the menu and then clicks on Remove Chapter (or clicks on Remove All Chapters if you think chapter menu is not neccessary).
4. Clicks on OK and clicks on Next.

In this way you can still watch both clips without having a chapter for the clip B.

For the Menu-Out issue, I've forwarded your steps to Ulead.

Hope this helps.

Hiding things

Post by Jane B »

Anyone had these green six petaled flowers appear during the preview when using the thumbnail menu?

They are there on the final DVD as well. I would like to get rid of them or change to something more in keeping with my menu. They appear when you put your mouse at the edge of the thumbnail.

There is no sign of anything when designing the menu.

There is also a small orange almost circle that appears in the final menu that appears from nowhere.

Could you do the same as Snoops and 'walk us through' what you did so we can recreate the problem then look for a cure.

Hi Jane,

The flower and circular thing are part of the SmartScene template provided with the trial. In the full version, you can select better templates or modify because you have more than 1 to choose from.

The flower is the highlight when a clip is chosen in the menu.
The circular thing (which sadly covers part of the text) is the marker of the selected clip title.

Hi Henry,

The Trimming and the Menu-Out issues are been confirmed by Ulead. For Menu-Out, it will happen when 2-Pass Encoding is been enabled. I think Ulead will fix these issues in the patch.

Best regards,

H.T.,

many thanks for answering, and for forwarding the infos!
Hope the fixes come soon.

With you being here, posts in this forum seem to get more reaction than in support  8)
