vs8 Remove audio from movie problem

Post by Debbie@WEI »

Version 8 AND just downloaded version 9 with same problem occurring.

Sorry, don't know how to find my motherboard info, but it's not all that old. And I have handled 30 minute video's just fine, although it can take hours to render to a dvd. I upgraded the video card last year and I it's a 128 DDR Radeon 9200.

GOAL: To simply remove the audio that is attached to my movie. ASAP.

PROBLEM:
When I inserted media file, insert video (Quicktime .mov) into timeline it went in fine. The problem happens when I click on the .mov under edit-video and click MUTE. I've also tried just turning the volume from 100% to 10%. What happens is that the 8 second .mov slows to a crawl. The .mov is fine before I do anything with the audio. As soon as I click 'mute' the .mov is basically not working - a few frames run, but nothing else happens. I've tried extending the time frame, everything I can think of, including importing other short movies and trying the same thing. Same problem all around, which would tell me it's a problem with the software.

The video's (several short sections) was taken of a Christmas Wreath being made by hand made. The video is for a customer who wants to create a streaming video. Couldn't get the new company camera into the right mode, so we used a Kodak 5mg camera to record. When I copied it onto my computer at the office (which doesn't have VideoStudio) the video was converted to a Quicktime video. I saved the .mov to CD and brought it to my home computer where I do all of our graphics/video, etc. (The camera we had to use belonged to someone else and we had to return it quickly.)

Movie properties:
Quicktime Movie Files
320 x 240
7.787 seconds
1 video track, 1 sound track
VIDEO TRACK
Compression H.263
24 bits, 320 x 240
156 frames
20.0333 frames/sec
7.787 seconds
start at 0.00 seconds
SOUND TRACK
plaw 2:1
16.000 khz, 16bits, mono
124,592 samples
7.787 seconds
start at 0.00 seconds

I simply cannot send this video to the customer with the audio attached. We were near a busy road and the audio is horrible. I was planning on adding voice over or additional audio to make the video more interesting. I've NEVER had this problem before when using VideoStudio8, simply because I either used the complete movie or used still images in our video's. I've also never had problems with an audio used. This is the first time I've tried to mute a movie.

Please, what can I do?
Thank YOU!

Place your video on the timeline.
Right click and select Split.
This will seperate the audio from the video.
Now select the audio and hit the delete key.

I've tried that already Steve. Just in case, I went back and opened a new project, imported the 8 sec movie again, right clicked and split the audio. When you do that, the movie still shows as muted. I click back on the movie, click play and it doesn't move but like 3 frames total. It's the same problem.

:(

I'll gladly try any other suggestions. I hate to have to record the video again as the setup was a real pain. Plus, nature is saying it's spring and the noble fir boughs we use for our wreaths are growing little green bits - not so good in a Christmas video!

Just for others information on this I had Debbie email the clip to me. I tried splitting the video using VS8, 9 and 10(beta). The results were the same as she described. Once the audio is muted or split, then the video does not play.

I then tried just converting the *.mov clip to AVI or MPEG and still no good. Maybe it will take Quicktime Pro (which I don't have) to remove the audio track. Anyone else know ?

Have you tried to create a video file and selected Video Only.
I know that can be done with Media Studio but cannot recall if VideoStudio also does this. (I am away from my editing machine at the moment.)

Yes I did, in VS just change the compression to none, then you have the option of Video only.

OK thinking on my feet at the moment. have you tried to render a video with sound, and then tried to remove the sound from that video. I realise this means rendering twice and a possible loss of quality.

Hey I can't believe this, I actually got 1 step ahead of you :)

Yep, I tried rendering that clip any way possible. I did notice that when I tried to play it in project mode, it would not play, just plays like the first frame. It looks like a still image. VS does lockup or do anything funny. I tried rendering to MP4, any of them. With audio, without. I matched up the properties with what the clip properties were, except the type. I will say about the only filetype I did not try was DivX.

Hi Guys, isn't this the problem that maddrummer was referring to? Remember the one concerning mov files that came from Kodak cameras? He posted a workaround somewhere to get the file into shape so that VS can actually do something with it?

Wow! The Kodak camera was to blame? I had NO idea!

Thanks to ALL of you for the assistance! Ron, you've been a star - and then even fixing my small file and sending it back! Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Now, I've followed the link, printed instructions and will try the fix in vs9 - as I downloaded the trial. I have 3 other short movies to fix. The longest one is about 5 minutes. Then I can - hopefully - meld them together into one movie for our customer.

I'm also going to charge the camera battery so I can test a movie from the company camera which is a Nikon Coolpix 8700 (8mgapixels). If that works then I'll stick with Video Studio and even upgrade.

Thanks again Guys! I'm off to see if I can do the fix on my own. I'll get back to you as to whether or not I'm successful!

.... Debbie
