I'm trying to capture video from my analog vcr through a dazzle 100. I can see the video playing using Moviefactory 5.
Two problems:
1. No sound during preview - sound is connected via rca cables.
2. Once I stop the capture process, I get a message that the file is corrupted and asks me if I want to delete it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Trouble capturing video with MovieFactory 5

You are not alone. I too am having the same problem with Movie Factory 5.
I initiated a contact with Technical Service on Monday and have not heard back from them yet. Initial software releases to the public can be quite hectic given that the real problems surface once the product is in the field.
Of interest might be that I used Movie Factory 3SE previously and it worked
fine with my system. Consequently I was disappointed when the product failed to work. To be fair though, when I checked some of the other features such as importing an existing video, editing, writing to disc, etc., those features seemed to work.

This is an update to my last posting.
I have received the following reply from Ulead Technical Support regarding the lack of audio when using DMF5 when it worked fine with DMF3se.
If you navigate to the Soundblaster website and search for updates to the Audigy 2 XS you will find an update to DMF 3se!!!
One of the notes that is included with the update is a warning that says that you should not download any version from the Ulead site. The only version compatible with your hardware is the one that came bundled with it. This reiterates the reply from Ulead.
Soundblaster does offer a download for an application called VidCap (Video Capture) that can be used to capture Video which can then be imported into your Ulead application. Note of course, that DMF3se does the same job.

What they seem to be saying is that DMF 3se that came bundled with my Soundblaster Audigy 2 XS Video Editor is a version that is not upgradable to DMF 5 or any other version.MovieFactory supports WDM compliant capturing devices. Make sure your capturing device has a WDM driver.
Bundled versions are equipped with special capture plugin that allows you to capture videos with devices that does not have WDM drivers.
You need to use the software that came bundled with the capturing device then import the video to MovieFactory 5 for DVD burning.

What they are saying is this, I will use my Hauppauge TV card as an example.
There are simply loads of different capture devices on the market.
Taking the Hauppauge range as an example there must be some 20-30 (or more) different TV capture cards. Even though they are all made by Hauppauge they are completely different from one another.
Hauppauge are also constantly bringing out new TV cards as technology changes - the arrival of digital television for instance, satelite, cable, freeview.
Whilst perhaps the majority of the Hauppauge cards use a WDM Driver, not all, some use other methods.
What Ulead are telling you is that if your device (ie the TV capture card) came bundled with some Ulead software then it will firstly be a "SE" version which stands for "Special Edition." It has been tweaked to work with that particular piece of hardware and would include any additional drivers for that particular item.
If you now go out and buy a normal version of Ulead software then it will not have been tweaked for your particular device and will not have those special drivers available for it.
In these situations Ulead are suggesting that you use the software that came with that hardware to perform the capture. Once captured you can then use the newer more up to date software to edit/author your DVD.

Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 Apparently Not Supported By MF5
For anyone interested, Steve's comments seem to be applicable to the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 device when attempting to capture through MF5. MF4 is able to perform captures through the PVR USB2 device however Ulead's Hauppauge patch "EU05-0506-01_DMF4_PVR_USB2.exe" must first be installed. Apparently the retail/download version of MF5 does not include integrated support for the device, nor is a patch currently available.sjj1805 wrote: Whilst perhaps the majority of the Hauppauge cards use a WDM Driver, not all, some use other methods....

If anyone has had different or better results please post your findings. In the meantime, as was previously mentioned, it's a simple matter to capture through Hauuppague's encoder and simply import the resulting file to MF5.
