I would buy WS3 especially if it supports HD-DVD and Bluray. Currently using workshop 2E it's great.

I really need the functionality of WS - but I will not purchase it until it supports HD.

It is frustrating that ULead are holding up bringing this functionality to WS - they have no other product that allows subtitling and playlists. If they don't pull their finger out then I might just have to look to competitive products.

So lets either have an update pack for WS 2 or WS 3 ULead!

Add me in too. But before going on the feature path, first solve the problems in V2, such as incorrect trimming of multistream video, incorrect importing of DVD titles (each chapter becomes a title), faster scrolling through films and such.

Once the basics work flawlessly, I might be interested in other features.

Since you have MSP8 -- you can see that Ulead addressed the DVD Import function by giving you the option to import complete Titles, or specific chapters :)

They actually added this to MF4 and VS9 before MSP8 (and also in MF5 and VS10). So, I have to believe it would be included in any revision to DWS :)

Me too on the WS3. A service patch for 16:9 and the other minor things is OK, but not enough. The interface needs an updat (like they have done with almost all of the other recently updated apps. Dockable and stretchable windows with scalable scroller bars would go a long way to simplify chapters, mark-in-out, subtitles.... The subtitle entry system needs to be streemlined, an all keybord method is needed (I hate taking my hands off the keyboard just becuse the mouse is the only way to get to the next step).

I have my fingers crossed...

If there was a WS 3 I would get it. With such good reviews when WS2 was brought out hopefully Ulead can see the +++'s in doing a 3.

There are a lot of theories around regarding WS3, some maybe with substance, some without. The major problem, though, is Ulead's silence. I think there are a lot of people who are holding back on purchasing decisions, waiting for an answer on this one. Many of us, and not only with Ulead products, have bought something, only for a newer version to come out shortly thereafter. WS2 is quite old, and most Ulead products have been upgraded, so logically WS is next, so people are waiting to see what happens. Soon they will lose patience and go elsewhere, and may be permanantly lost to Ulead as a customer. If they had an answer to the burning question, I think many of those people would wait, and stick with WS. I know I am one of those people.

I too am one of those people. I have been wanting to upgrade to the full version from express but I'm in limbo waiting on WS3. :?

I'm screaming loudly WE WANT WS3 :)

Me too! I've been using WS2.2 Express since January last year and I'm fast losing patience waiting for an upgrade. I've "looked at" the various MovieFactory updates, but I'm not impressed - they just don't offer the power and flexibility of Workshop.

Apart from 16:9, I would hope that the next version will extend Dolby support and remove the present "total bitrate" limitations.

DVD WS2 imposes no bitrate limitations. These are written into the DVD standard. There is no way that Ulead (or anyone else) can depart from these standards.

I got tired of waiting and moved on to Adobe Encore.

I'm not posting this to agitate the group, but with the hope that Ulead will see that people are leaving and not waiting. If they had announced something (like trying to get HD working) then I would have waited for a reasonable amount of time, but the silence was deafening, especially with their other apps having quite a few updates. Don't know why they would not announce any work, since it is not like it would cannibalize any other DVDWS sales - I doubt there are many new buyers for this old app. Unless DVDWS3 does something exciting that Encore does not do, I doubt I will upgrade, so this is a true lost sale.

Good luck and I'll probably keep checking in here to see if anything happens.

Fair point. I did get a new system earlier in the year so it made the transition possible. A system that meets/beats those specs can be had at Dell for ~$470.

Using Pricegrabber, Encore can be found at $299, but DVDWS2 is priced at over $400! I forgot how much it cost. It seems backwards that your software costs almost as much as the hardware, but I guess that shows how cheap computers are now.

If DVDWS3 comes out, it will probably require similar system specs and hopefully have a lower price. I also hate product activation.

And $179 for the full Express version (from $99 for upgrades), which has 95% of the functionality of the normal version.

I would recommend the normal version only:
a) if you wish to make DLtapes for glass mastering
or
b) if you wish to have more than two subtitle or audio tracks
otherwise the Express version is perfectly OK.
