Please don't let DVDW2 be the end. It's great authoring program only lacking an update to 16:9.

I'm getting bad feelings that Ulead and their new owners are not realizing the large and loyal userbase of DVDWorkshop.

Come on Ulead - there are many of us users who use it as their professional authoring program of choice - we're willing to pay for update development - and so much of the footwork has already been invested in long ago - why waste the investment?

If WS2 dies - we will never invest in Ulead product again as we lose our learning curve investment - better to go with an authoring program with a longer track record and consistent updating.

DVDWS2 - The Future

Post by LightPrism »

Learned, much to my disappointment in Ulead, that DVDWS3 was in early beta testing and in this past Dec the decision was made to end the beta and probably the product.

What a shame!

We will not invest in a Ulead product again - the labor investment in the learning curve far outstrips the product cost. We just took the bait that they were into professional products with all the market hype of professionals using the product. (remember that campaign?).

To be fair to Intervideo Ulead - we understand that it's a business decision they have to make and the consumer market is where they want to be. But we will miss DVDWS2 (and Cool3D for that matter) - we are moving toward something with a longer professional track record. Great WYSIWYG authoring solution while it lasted.

Bye!

Actually I was made a member of the Beta Testing Team on 17 March 2006. all I can say is that I would encourage people to continue to support our call to get things moving along.

:D That is the best news I've heard in a long time!

Maybe this thread did have an effect on their reconsidering.

Please Ulead - by all means - keep it going!

Is it true that the interface is entirely different from DVDWS2?

Just Purchased

Post by tfharman »

I Purchased DW because of the power it has in most aspects of authoring, but, I didn't realize it didn't support DVD-9 fully. I need this support as I author videos of sermons and events. The 4.7 DVD's are not large enough and I don't want to decrease the quality. We at least need support for writing directly to DVD -9 or DVD +R DL's. I see you have a patch for DVD -R DL but this patch did not do the trick. Also I don't know that you even included support for more than tape- double tape for DVD-9. Please add support for writing directly to DVD +/-R DL. Sony DVD RW DRU-720A.

Thanks Much :)

P.S. Or at least tell me how to make it work. :)

I've reluctantly switched to Encore in order to have true 16:9 menu support... but I absolutely hate it. DVDWS3 is desperately needed!

By the way, the well-documented IFOedit method of converting a DVDWS 4:3 project to display widescreen menus is seriously flawed;
1. It merely S T R E T C H E S your 4:3 pictures/text/buttons rather than giving you faithful dimensions in widescreen
2. It only plays back reliably in software (PC) players - I burned a project that had been edited in this way and ran it in 3 different stand-alone/domestic DVD players (Sony/Panasonic) and it crashed on ALL of them.

Forget any idea of a home-spun work around - we need DVDWS3... we needed it ages ago!

Yes we need DVDWS3 Now! since it´s kind of late, many of us are starting to aim at some other proggs like it or not.

I think, that DVD workshop is the best DVD editing software ever made, fonts, objects etc. can be imported and a lot of other things, I hope that there will be an new release.

And I also hope that Ulead fix this problem: Audio loop in the menu, so that the clicking go away when the menu load again.

Well - a month has passed by... and DVDWS3 has supposedly been in beta for at least 7 months or more .....

Any news - is our dream of 3 just a dream?

Beta testers are under NDA and cannot give news of this nature -- even if they had any! :( All we know is that the situation is under consideration.

We STILL want WS3, and the more new voices that scream here, as loudly as possible, the better the chances.

As a registered DVD WS2 user I've tried (once again) contacting Ulead about the chance of a version 3 upgrade.

Up until around a year ago I always got a polite reply explaining that all outstanding issues (like 16:9 menu support) would be dealt with in version 3 - but they never offered a timescale.

NOW... I get absolutely no response. Silence.

I agree that it's high time Ulead came clean to their customers about their intentions regarding this product. Will it go to version 3 or is it being quietly discontinued?

It's pretty galling to read in this thread that some people have had involvement in Beta testing of version 3 when Ulead remains tight-lipped about the existance of such a development...
