when arrive dvd workshop 3?
We do not know. As you can read above, Workshop appears to be "on hold" or near the end.
there is version beta?
No. In the past, beta versions have not been made available to the public. Everything has been kept secret. The beta testers are not allow to say anything about the beta software.

R.I.P. DVDWorkshop

Post by Maukka »

DVD Workshop is obsolete, and now also incompatible with the current PC operating system. To stay with DVDWorkshop means no HDV, no 16:9, no Vista... all those things are a necessity today. Not a matter of choice.

Those of us who have used DVDWorkshop for several years, this is sad state of affairs. It was the right product for those of us for whom Movie Factory wasn't and isn't quite enough while we might not need all the functionalities (or learning curve...) of, say, Adobe Encore. But one must face the facts, we are now forced to look elsewhere.

This thread tried to convince Ulead that there was a user base waiting for an upgrade. We were hoping that Ulead would do the right thing. But clearly they did not.

18 March will mark the first anniversary of this thread. Maybe we could somehow use this date to commemorate the "death" of a product we were all quite keen on in spite of some of the bugs.

Hey DiscCoasterPro

thx for the suggestion. Just played around with it for a bit. So far so good. I don't think I'll ever like anything as much as WS2. However, this is the best program I used so far that remotely resembles it.

I HATE having to learn to use a new program, but I have no other choice.

At $50us, the price is right!

I agree froggy_doddy21.
installed the trial last night, and although the user interface isnt as straight forward as DWS2, it does everything i want (so far) and its just a matter of learning a new way.

Yeah it's pretty good - the main thing I can't figure out right now is how to frame a thumbnail (in WS2 you drag and drop the frame, but that doesn't work in architect)

My line of thinking is to get used to the Sony interface while still using WS2 in the meantime. Then when I switch to burning HD DVD or blu-ray disks, hopefully version 5 will be out by then and I can switch over.

Does architect work in vista? I haven't tried it - I installed it on my XP virtual machine. Curious to know though.

Just a thought regarding Sony and the HD-DVD format -- I don't think they will support HD-DVD considering their Blu-Ray investment. But stranger things have happened...

My question to Sony:
I am a Ulead software user, and I want to move to DVD Architect Studio 4 but need to know when it will be compatible with Windows Vista.
If I buy now, will there be a free upgrade/patch when support for Vista is announced? Many thanks.

Sony's response:
Thanks for writing. As you may already be aware, none of our software is currently supported on Vista. We are indeed working to update our software to Vista compatibility. However, at this time, I am unable to predict when these updates may be released. I do know that future numbered versions of our software will be Vista compatible.

Which I take to mean that v5 will be, v4 might not be.

That's good information to know.

I would like to remind folks that this is a Ulead Forum, and NOT a forum for detailed questions/discussions about competitor products. Of course occasional questions/comments come up about other products, and I think that's just part of having a healthy discussion (and there's nothing wrong with that). I'm just trying to avoid threads becoming a Q&A for Non-Ulead products.

George:
I know what you are saying but this specific thread has turned into a suitable replacement for Workshop 2. WS2 is the program we wish we could keep using, but unfortunately it seems to have been abandoned. Discussing other similar software in this thread is relevant as we all know what WS2 can do and we all want similar features.

Tecstar:
I wrote Sony too. No reply yet, but I read more into it. WHEN architect DOES get Vista support, it will be in the form of version 5, which YOU WILL HAVE TO UPGRADE TO or BUY. So it's no use buying version 4 right now. Hopefully it will have better HD support as well. It's a pretty nice program (of course not as good as WS2 however - hehe)

While we are in the off-topic, off-beat, off-Ulead mode, I had a look at Adobe's forum (Premiere Pro, etc) guess what... They are not Vista compatible either, and the same message is being echoed, "The next version..." So how would you like to spend $1,600 + on a program that will not be patched. To use it with Vista, you will need to spend probably an additional $200+ for an upgrade? So Intervideo/Ulead is by far not the only program that is behind the ball...

I've noticed that as well in my research. A few of the low end/consumer programs seemed to have been updated to be Vista compatible. However, the higher end programs are behind. You'd think they'll be released soon though.

Ulead was generous enough to offer a "vista update pack" for VS10, but many other companies make you BUY a new edition (like MovieFactory 6 or Sony Architect)

Off topic or not, it has proved that Ulead is in fact in front of the competition as at least some of the Ulead software has been given patches for Vista.

Froggy_doddy, I have to say that as much as I like DVDWS2, after having a real play with DVDAS, I like it better. It has lots of nice little things you can do with it that are not as good as DVDWS2.
I will probably wait for a Vista compatible version, though.
(unless a new DVDWS2 arrives in the mean time, then I will definitely have a choice to make!)

I'm still learning how to use architect, so that's why I'm not 100% convinced yet. I few things about it still annoy me - but you're right, it IS very nice.

The thing that scares me the most would be the lack of support for HD DVD. Sony will probably JUST offer blu-ray. I haven't picked an HD side yet, but it'd nice to have a program that offers both.
