What I am stating is that DVDWS is a dead product.
(Even more dead now with yet another layer of acquisition)
The beta team for DVDWS3 was disbanded 9 months ago.
Even your June '06 link claims that DVDWS2 is "on Hold" which is a far cry from being in beta testing as your report of being made a beta tester in March '06 implied. Your being made a beta tester of an "on hold" product and one for which the beta team was disbanded 4 months earlier to your becoming a beta tester speaks to itself.
Then add to this that no where on the official Ulead site can a reference to on-going development and/or beta testing (meaning a DVDWS3 or patch is being refined by a team of chosen testers), speaks volumes. Who can vouch for the validity of the poster in the link to a non-Ulead website? Why would a Ulead official choose to respond on a non-Ulead site when the same questions have been asked time and again on their own official website. The only reliable spokesperson source for a Ulead product is on a Ulead official website. There is nothing there.
I hope for the sake of those still waiting for DVDWS3 to provide at least a 16:9 menu authoring (16:9 which has been prevalent for many years) that something is happening. Or better yet, that the facts are not reality and DVDWS3 is being worked on. But current factual official info and facts show it is not being worked on.
Bottom line:
-Beta team disbanded in Dec '06
-Not a single official Ulead site announcement or Ulead Corp press release
-An unofficial non-Ulead site statement from someone claiming to be a Ulead management official stating DVDWS2 is "On Hold" in June while you claim to be made a beta tester in March '06 of a product which is On Hold - and that was your provision of the link.
That is what I was implying.

Any Beta tester will know that having signed a non-disclosure agreement they are not allowed to talk about anything they are working on, so it's not unsuprising that if work was being carried out you are not hearing about it, at least until the public beta is relaeased.LightPrism wrote: The beta team for DVDWS3 was disbanded 9 months ago.

Thanks for telling me I'd been sacked as a Beta tester, nice to know

What specifically is it on our website tell's you that I have an axe to grind as you imply.heinz-oz wrote:Hi Steve,
just click on LightPrism's web link and you know where he's "coming from".
We have used Ulead's DVDWS1 and 2 as well as their Cool3D products.
And we would have loved to continue using DVDWS3 instead of starting the learning curve all over with another authoring program.
I'm sorry if you can find no better retort than to resort to an attempt to imply I have an axe to grind and name-calling. If you took the time to read my earlier posts months ago before resorting to such low tactics, you'd have seen we were a fan of DVDWS and were holding out hope for a patch or DVDWS3.
The facts still remain:
1. There is no official Ulead statement or press release shown on their website that DVDWS3 is in development or in beta testing.
2. The only thing offered as proof that DVDWS3 is in devolpment and in beta testing is a link to a statement on a non-Ulead website from someone that claims to be a Ulead management person. And what this person states is that DVDWS is "ON HOLD" as of June 2006. It appears incongruous to be paying software engineers to be writing code and have a beta team actively testing a product that is On Hold. And as said earlier, it seems very strange that a Ulead manager would answer a question on the status of a Ulead product on a non-Ulead website, when their own Ulead website has the same discussion and question with over 1200 postings on the topic.
As far as asking a beta tester to break their NDA, no one asked for such.
As far as labeling someone a troll because they've provided facts that support a position contrary to what you believe, try using facts to prove your position instead namecalling.
In the end, I truly hope you are correct that DVDWS3 is coming down the pike instead of being placed "On Hold" as the info you provided states. I am not a big fan of Encore - but I am a huge fan of DVDWS2 for 4:3 projects. Unfortunately a lot of what we are doing is now in the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Steve - when I do as you instructed and click on the Usergroups, there is no DVD WS 3 Beta in the drop down menu available to me.sjj1805 wrote:Then I suggest you click the "Usergroups" link at the top right of this page and look at DVD WS 3 Beta and check my membership!
And I did not question that you were a member of a beta team - I stated that it does not appear that DVDWS3 is in further development. And the link you sent us to also states the DVDWS status is "on hold" as of June 06.
And please do not misunderstand, I am in no way asking you to break your NDA.
The only thing I would hope for is some official Ulead word or press release or response on their own forum of the present status of DVDWS as many of us have or had held off making needed changes based upon the belief that DVDWS was actively being revamped. If the link you provided to the On Hold status is accurate, then that may help some make their decision.
I also think that the Corel acquisition puts yet another crimp in the future.
But with what miniscule info that is out there, my only interests are to provide what my perception and the info I base that perception on.
Sure I could be wrong - and I sincerely hope I am - love DVDWS.

You may want to research what happened to the first original DVDWS3 beta testing team in Dec '05 before you are more
Further, you may want to let whomever at Ulead is running the beta team that there is a posting on another website alledgedly from Ulead management that DVDWS status is said to be "On Hold" as of June '06. If that is incorrect and they are continuing to invest in it's development, they may want to counter what would then be a false or incorrect statement.

I do not know why you are unable to see the Beta Group. There are too many to fit on one screen but The following will confirm my membership

No one is trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes. As stated above by skier-hughes Beta Testers are unable to divulge information concerning programs or anything else under development.
Have you ever heard the saying by the former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson A week in politics is a long time
Heres some examples of how things change overnight.
Are the British Public carrying ID cards yet?
What is the latest development of the proposed merger of British Police Forces.
For this reason - and also to prevent competitor companies stealing ideas things must be kept hush. Industrial Espionage is big business.
I am sorry that you are frustrated by the lack of any feedback from Ulead
but that is a matter out of the hands of the members of this forum.
Regarding your uncertainty of the status of Tobie Openshaw as being a Manager from Ulead, you may judge for yourself by reading his various posts on THIS board

Steve, just FYI, I "believe" that if someone is not a member of a usergroup then they don't have the option to view those list (like you showed in your last post). When I click on the "Usergroups" button at the top of the forum, I only get the "Non-member groups" displayed. The others are not listed as options. And, in the non-member groups, there are only 4 options (ADM, Beta Admin, MSP8 Beta Tester, and UVS Beta).

The DVDWS 3 Beta Tester group is only visible to beta testers.
Hope this helps.

As I said before I left, I'd check in every now and then to the forum, and caught up on some news. Didn't know Corel bought Ulead. My company has a good deal with Corel, so maybe I will get DVDWS3 (if it comes out) if it is cheap enough.
I have to agree with LightPrism. It seems really weird that a statement from Ulead is not on this forum but is on some other one.

How do you know the beta testing team has been disbanded in December 2006? When December 2006 is 3 months away?
What happened to the beta testing team in December 2005?
Nobody told me anything and I was part of that team.
Do you not think that members of beta testing teams don't continually tallk to their product group managers?

I've made it a little hobby to test out various Authoring programs and let me tell you. DVD Workshop is RIDICULOUSLY EASY to understand and use.
IT IS THE BEST ... DVD Authoring program available even now as it ages and fearfully dies a less that gracious death without its creators so much as breathing a tickle of life into our hopes of V3
COME ON ULEAD .... At least a hint of a possibility.
PS. Could we please have that update done by Xmas. Thanks.
