I'm looking for a way to set the 16x9 flag

I'm currently using a Panasonic ES20 DVD recorder to record shows off of my HD TIVO. I record them using DVD-RWs and then import them into to Moviefactory 4 to after removing all the commercials using Womble MpegVCR.

The problem I have is when the content is 16x9, the DVD recorder records the shows in a squeezed 4x3 format. It still plays correctly on my 16x9 set, but if I play it on a standard 4x3 set, everything looks squished and it fails to add black bars at the top and bottom to maintain the widescreen ratio.

Any suggestions as to how I can turn on the widescreen flag?

I had the same problem. You can alter the playback aspect ratio (A/R) settings by ripping the DVD folders to PC HDD and change the A/R from 4:3 to 16:9 in the IFO file, using IFOedit. Or, is you have Video ReDo, theres an option to set the AR when you save the MPEG out.
