MD:
FYI HD video is captured in mpeg2 format directly from the camera, no conversion from avi. Some programs copy the file in m2t, which is the native format, Ulead strips off information from the stream and captures in mpg (HD).
MF5 does handle HDV better than MSP8 or VS9. MF5 captures and outputs HD video better then the other programs. MF5 doesn't use a proxy file to edit video so you don't have to wait to do cuts.
As far as hardware cards for HD video I think they are a long way off and I'm not sure if they are necessary, since capture is already mpg.

Hi,
Thanks, I thought that the recording format was mpeg2 directly on the tape or harddisk in the camcorder.
I still like hardware devices. But, as you say if the video is already in mpeg2 format then when burning devices are more available on the market I should be able to transfer them to the harddisk and burn them immediately because they should already be compliant files.
That would be nice.
I really need to rent one of those units soon.
I don't see why even now if I used/rented a HD camcorder and then transferred the files to the harddisk I should be able to play them directly on the HDTV via the component output of the computers video card. I have some spare Sata 250gig drives.
Sounds correct, right.
According to ulead the "WinDvd_7" plays the HD stuff.
The Nvidia dvd player should do it. I haven't been able to play 25,000kbs files yet. I don't have any. Guess I'll have to make a HD slideshow in MF5 and see if the NVidia Dvd Player will play them at 25,000kbs.
Thanks,
