problems with export of avi back to DV tape

Post by Bomoh »

I have an intermittent problem with exporting finished avi back to tape. I'm using a recently acquired Panasonic GS 400 camcorder with firewire connection and MSP8 and occasionally the export just fails. I restart the process and it fails again but at a totally different point. I restart again and it exports the tape perfectly.
I never had this problem before with a Sony handicam. Unfortunately I do not have access to another camera to see if it is a camera fault or a software problem. Any one seen anything like this before???

I suspect a faulty cable or IEEE1394 port.

Try a different cable first.

Are any unnecessary background tasks running during the export? Make sure to turn off those non-essential tasks (anti virus, anti-spyware, task scheduler, screen saver, etc...)

Try a small free utility called WinDV -- it has a little buffer to help with hiccups.

As mentioned, in the end it just might be a faulty wire or port on either your computer or camcorder...

Changed the cable and it performed just the same with intermittent problems.

Then changed the entire firewire card............... very cheap here in Malaysia................. all seems to work OK now.

Thanks for the help. If it hiccups again I'll post again.

thanks
