Brand new VS9 user finds unexpected bonus (Hauppauge vs PS2)

Hi there. Brand new VS9 user finds unexpected bonus feature (Hauppauge vs. PS2)…

If you have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture card and you also have a PlayStation/PS2 or XBOX/360 then read on…

You may have tried to hook up to your console to your WinTV-card (via composite or s-video) with the purpose of using your PC-monitor for gaming. And you have probably then had to realize that using the WINTV2000 is a no go since there is a 1 sec delay between joy pad keys press and visual reaction. What a bummer.

Well. Try again. Hook up your console (preferable to the s-video input), power it up and this time use VideoStudio 9.
Start the VideoStudio Editor.
Select the Capture tab. Select Capture Video.
Select source (Hauppauge…)
Select Options… Capture Properties…
In the Input Source window select Composite or S-video under Input Source. Press OK.
Now you should see a crisp-visual from the console in the preview window.
Select the bottom-right Full Screen icon and Game On…

Strange that 3rd party software can when Hauppauge's native software cannot.

Of course now you are also chewing up disk space at an alarming rate while you are gaming. Of course, capturing in-game video is exactly what many people want, but it is something to be aware of.

You can limit the file size by capturing to AVI using a codec such as Huffyuv or the MSU Video Codec (lossless), or DivX/XviD (high-quality lossy).
