16:9 to 4:3

Post by troppo »

How do I crop my widescreen DV footage to 4:3 aspect? I am editing with the widescreen footage, but want to output to a 4:3 file. I have made a 4:3 file but it is squeezed. I want to crop it down so everything doesn't look so thin.

Open appropriate DV 4:3 template and import 16:9 footage to timeline. Apply Moving Path/Picture in Picture/Center option. NTSC W=854 H=480, PAL W=1024 H=576. Set begin/end keys with copy/paste function. Create Video File and you're set.

This may also come of help. I saw this reply from Terry Stetler in an older post.

Set up a 4:3 project with non-square pixel rendering turned on. Now 16:9 content in a 4:3 project will be automatically letterboxed.

Do this in a 16:9 project and 4:3 content will be automatically pillared.

If it doesn't in either case then set the files Media Source Options stretch mode to "Keep aspect ratio".
