Recommended Proceedure for saving menu/chapter creation.

Post by mghia »

I am using VS 7 SE.
I did not want to save my menus each time.
ACCORDING THE OP of the recommended proceedure post, I can click close, and then save so that my menus are preserved.

SO NOW I WANT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN WHAT I SAVED SO I CAN BURN IT WITH THE MENUS I SET.

CAN THIS BE DONE?
IF SO HOW?
OP STATED:
11. optional Step: You can save all your DVD meus by pressing "close." Select FILE/SaveAS and name this prect "BURN PRoject" or something like that. Then, when you open this Burn project again and press SHARE/Create Disc, everything(menus, ect) should still be there."

SO I DID THIS SINCE IT WAS LATE, I SPENT A LONG TIME MAKING CHAPTERS AND JOGGING THE PICTURE SO I WANTED TO SAVE IT.

THEY ONLY ALLOW ME IN 7SE to save as a VSP unless someone can teach me otherwise,

1. IF I OPEN just my original mpeg from the file menu, it will not contain my menu selections and setup
2. If in the FILE menu I >OPEN PROJECT it will show my menus in SHARE section.

The burn fails every time with many tries to match the file. I do get the converting to video message no matter what I try.

3. If I just click NEW PROJECT and go to the Share/create section I am only given two choices. Add project or Add file.

4. IF I JUST add the original MPG it will not contain the menus
5. IF I try to open the project it says it can not since it is empty.
From either route I do not see how to get it to load my menus and still burn. What am I missing?

6. IF I do open THE PROJECT which is a VSP file ,and then SHARE/Create Disk, YES I DO GET MY MENUS. BUT THE BURN FAILS AND THE OP said this is becaue I OPENED the project in the file menu.

7. I tried burning the file to my hard drive with plenty of space by making an ISO file. But this file is zipped and I am not sure what to do with it.

I tried the program called Ulead VCD/DVD image creator v 1.5. It finds the ISO file so I just told it to use it. Yet the burn failed again.

Please undertand I tried this after going through all the steps and having to redo after a burn fail.

I am requesting steps of what to do with what I have not what I should have done.

That is- I HAVE NOW A VSP linked to an mpg. It contains all my menus.
WHAT STEPS do I do to save it as one file so that I can burn it later.

OR what do I do now that I have the menu work saved to properly burn it?

HI mghia

I am using VS 7 SE.
I did not want to save my menus each time.
ACCORDING THE OP of the recommended proceedure post, I can click close, and then save so that my menus are preserved.

SO NOW I WANT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN WHAT I SAVED SO I CAN BURN IT WITH THE MENUS I SET.

( You open the previously saved Vsp. The project should appear empty, now Share Create Disc. Your video file clips should appear in the timeline, your menu should be intact.)

( If your video clip properties do not match the project properties, video studio WILL render the video to make this so, before burning.

To ensure the project properties do correspond to the video read My User Guide ----------‘Share (Burn to Disc) ------------
http://uk.geocities.com/trevor.andrew@b ... vs/all.htm )

3. If I just click NEW PROJECT and go to the Share/create section I am only given two choices. Add project or Add file.
( Here you should select ADD VIDEO )

4. IF I JUST add the original MPG it will not contain the menus
( after adding your video you now create your menus)

5. IF I try to open the project it says it can not since it is empty.
From either route I do not see how to get it to load my menus and still burn. What am I missing?
( do not open a project in the burner stage)

6. IF I do open THE PROJECT which is a VSP file ,and then SHARE/Create Disk, YES I DO GET MY MENUS. BUT THE BURN FAILS AND THE OP said this is becaue I OPENED the project in the file menu.
( You should be able to retrieve the menus as in 6 )

( the burner fails are a different problem to understanding the menu workflow.)

7. I tried burning the file to my hard drive with plenty of space by making an ISO file. But this file is zipped and I am not sure what to do with it.

( Iso files are zipped, you can use WinRar to unzip, but this is not necessary.
The file can be burned to disc using the VCD /DVD/CD Disc image recorder.
Goto Start-Programs-Ulead Video Studio ) This opens a burner window simply browse for the Iso file)

I tried the program called Ulead VCD/DVD image creator v 1.5. It finds the ISO file so I just told it to use it. Yet the burn failed again.

Please undertand I tried this after going through all the steps and having to redo after a burn fail.

(with your video clips / chapters / menus and all in the timeline, select the ‘cogwheel lower right, change mpeg settings, customise. Change the settings to match your video file properties.)

( the burn process is most likely failing due to incorrect video file or project settings.)
Provide us with these settings, right click the video file in the timeline and select properties, what are they.
How did you capture your video, what connections did you use?

Read my guides
http://uk.geocities.com/trevor.andrew@b ... vs/all.htm

And the recommended procedure again,

You also say you are using VS 7 se .I am unsure if this version supports DVD burning or just Vcd burning.

Hi,
I will be looking into your links and suggestions shortly. It would seem to be the mismatch issue but this is why I am repeating that if I can burn the file without menus but then the burn fails with menus, that is not the settings in the core file
Also the VS 7 SE shows I can burn DVD and gives me the options and I have burned one with this program.

Is the upgrade worth it? seems like others still have this problem in 9. AND should I wait not until 10 comes out to upgrade?

As for the clip properties, since tihs seems to be it issue I will tellyou this
1. I used a VCR connected with RCA outs to my BFG FX5900 Video card S-Vid in, using the provided adaptor. The audio went into my sound card jack.
2 I used 7 SE as the capture software but only switched it from VCD to DVD.
I did not read that their defualt was the 25 frames and the 704x480 and the bit rate at 1500 kbps.

I do have a question about that. The one dvd I burned raw of this file was very blocky during fast moving and the image itself seemed a down grade from the video quality. I assumed it woudl be at least equal.
This is why I wonder if the capture was not a good as it should be.

Here is the source clip properties: I am in the USA
File size 690,048 KB
Duration 53:59:06
Clip Attributes:Speed 100%
Format: 24 bits, (704x480)
Compression : MPEG-2, 1500 kbps
Comp. ration 0%
Frame rate 25,000 frames/sec
Total frames 80981
Audio- MPEG audio Layer 2 files
Attributes 44100 Hz, 16 bit, stereo

I will point out that as for the compression, in the one section they do not let me match the 1500 kbps they only allow as low as 1700 or so.

Will I get a better video if I jsut capture over at the 29 fps and a higher bit rate?

I have not gone to the suggested links yet but if they do not discuss feilds, can someone fill me in what he different feild mean and how they make a difference? As I can see, there is no indication of what feild form this was captured in so I do not know how to match it.

Thanks for the help. Let me know if you need more info.

MG
PS is there a program less fussy about burning files with mismatched info. That is, more intuitive? See, I did not change any settings so I would have assumed my input and out put would be the same. I would like to see a program that reads the format it is in and then burns from that.

Your capture setting of "Compression : MPEG-2, 1500 kbps " will yield only poor quality video. This may be the root of your problem.

You also have to find out whether your geographical location has PAL or NTSC video standard.

The recommended procedure clearly says use 8000 kbps when capturing, editing, and burning. Don't change properties in mid stream or you will invite problems.

If you want to have success, you will have to follow the procedure exactly for YOUR video standard.
