Playlist control: DVD Workshop 2 v Express
I am looking to upgrade from Movie Factory 3 and am considering a purchase of DVD Workshop 2. One of the main features I am looking for is the ability to create submenus that branch off and allow you to select chapters within chapters, or just play the whole video, without having to duplicate assets. I assume that's what is meant by playlist control. It looks like I can do this in Workshop 2. What about Express? I don't think I need all the features of Workshop 2 if I can do this in Express. Can I do it in the new Movie Factory 5? Thanks.
I haven't seen MF5 yet, so cannot answer the last part, but I very much doubt it. WS Express does allow you the flexibility you require, but be aware that it is not the most modern software and has poorish support for 5.1 sound and 16:9 menus (there are workarounds, but they are clumsy). If you are satisfied with stereo sound and 4:3 menus (the video can be 16:9) then go for it.

MF5 does not have Playlists. It's still a "Wizard" based software that gives you some menu flexibility, but not as much as DWS 2.x
The Playlist feature in DWS is really for Titles. You can have multiple Titles play in different order. You can also setup sub menus, and Jump to scenes -- but the dvd will play from that scene (chapter) and continue to the end of the Title, then play the next Title in the Playlist (or menu). If a Title has 5 Chapters, you cannot setup a Playlist to Play Chapter-3 only (or Chapter 2, then Chapter 4, etc...) and then return to the menu. For that, you would have to "cut" them out of the original Title, and make them separate "Titles" in the video -- but they will take up space if you include the cutout sections as well as the entire original Title.
