A way around 1024 X 768 Minimum? I need 800 X 600.
Hi, this is my first post here...And yes, I searched first. Maybe the answer is out there, but I couldn't find it.
Upon launching Video Studio 9, I get the message that I need to set monitor resolution to at least 1024 X 768. The app won't open otherwise. I have complied and it works at 1024 X 768, but this is very uncomfortable for me as I am using a 17-inch CRT (Viewsonic PF775) and am highly myopic. It really strains my eyes to look at too-small characters and icons.
Starting the app at 1024 X 768 and then going to 800 X 600 doesn't work either.
Is there away around the 1024 X 768 requirement? Some patch or some config file I could modify to allow working at 800 X 600?
Thanks

Thanks. I will have a look at this, but I would like to avoid changing monitor resolution each time I want to use UVS. This is a bit cumbersome as the picture has to be stretched to fill the screen, and then re-tweaked again when reverting to 800 X 600. I will do it though if I have to.sjj1805 wrote:You need to go back to the Display Settings Dialog box and on it you will find a tab "appearance". Here you can adjust the size of icons, text etc to make them larger even though the screen size is 1024x 768.
also on the Settings tab you can select Large icons from a drop down list.

Bernard,
I think the reason for the 1024 requirement is because Ulead's applications function at full screen resolution only, with the exception of MSP and Cool 3D. They have modules that can be docked and undocked, but the app itself is essentially a full screen one.

What Steve is suggesting, is that you increase the resolution, then increase the size of your icons, & fonts, and then leave it that way. This is a bit cumbersome....
That might work, and it's worth a try... but it seems that there are some programs that have text that remains small, or that needs to be zoomed-in everytime you open the program.

You are right. I thought he was talking about UVS options, but he is talking about putting my desktop in 1024 x 768 on a permanent basis, These are the XP options he is referring to. I have already tried this a few times and always ended up deciding to go back to 800 X 600, There are lots of things that stay small, especially on web pages, even when selecting large characters in IE.DVDDoug wrote:What Steve is suggesting, is that you increase the resolution, then increase the size of your icons, & fonts, and then leave it that way. This is a bit cumbersome....

For me to go to 1024 X 768, I would have to get a new 20-ich LCD screen. The 1600 X 1200 native resolution means that picture quality doesn't suffer too much at 1024 X 768. It's not the case with a 19-inch 1280 X 1024 screen, which I don't like anyway because of the 5:4 proportion.
The twenty-inchers are still pricey for my taste though.
I am still on the UVS trial period...Maybe someone could suggest another simple video editing software that I could try, to see if it works at 800 X 600.

I'ne never used one but put a search in Google "screen resolution changer"
and there are a number of hits. Here's one that sounds like it might do the job but there are plenty of others as well.

Hi
I found a free utility that automatically changes the screen resolution for you.
The utility changes the screen resolution when you start an application and then when you exit the application returns you to the screen resolution you had before you started the application. You can download it here:
http://qres.softwarecave.nl/
Also, in IE you can tell IE to ignore the font size specified on any web page. To do this, click Tools | Internet Options. Click the Accessiblity button and then check the checkbox "Ignore Font Sizes Specified on Web Pages". Now when you increase the font size, it will effect the entire web page.
