Installer won't work on reinstall

Post by NancyH »

I have photo impact 8 which I carefully bought on disk to make sure I could load it on a new machine whenever I got one.
The installer comes up, it lets me proceed to agreeing to the user agreement and to the window where I enter the serial number and at that point it will go no further. I enter the serial number and the screen only offers cancel or back as options and the next button is not highlighted.
I do not have an internet connection for the new machine as yet - is that the problem? I wish to get it set up before replacing the current system that has net access but can run a cable if I must.
Thanks for any help on this!

I had the very same problem when I tried to install version 8 some years back. Tech support assure me it was not the disc and to reinstall. I tried for two weeks to uninstall and reinstall, and each time deleting the Ulead Folders before proceeding without success.

Finally, after many frustrating attempts, PI8 finally took my Key and installed, I never found out why.

I have an external Modem, but never saw Ulead try to connect before installation. I normally use the send by Mail registration as not to incur any viruses during connection.

Sorry I cannot add more, perhaps another will have better information.

Hi Nancy, welcome to the forums..:)

I hope this helps, but are you sure you are typing the correct serial number in? If you don't the "next" button will remain greyed out. I always try to type it exactly as it is written, ie; if the letters are in CAPS, then I use caps also.

Just a thought, as I have miss typed activation keys, and serial numbers in the past and that is what happens.

It does rather sound like your serial number isn't quite right.
couple of things to try.

1. If you're not quite sure of the registration number, did you register the software on the Ulead website, If so log on and retrive the serial number from there. Then I tend to use a copy/paste method just to make sure I dont get zeros mixed up with the letter O etc.
2. If you are sure you have the correct serial number and even a copy/paste fails to work then follow the instructions contained in the 5th post down here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11923
to completely uninstall PhotoImpact and then try again.

Thanks guys but this software has never been installed on this machine so I can't uninstall it.
I do not have internet access on the machine I'm installing it on so I can't cut and paste.
I've entered the serial number off the original CD case it was on and also compared it from this machine to the one on the website and it matches.
New machine does have internet security by Norton on it and unlike other versions of Norton I've not figured out how to shut it down so its not running though it lets me log on and off  it never goes away.
I did try making sure I entered upper case letters with no luck.
Does the software require internet access to install?
or am I just SOL with putting the old software on the new machine?

I did all that you did as well, and bought my software directly from Ulead. There was at that time a small gorup who had this problem, so I know the problem exists but don't know what caused it.

I would assume you have nothing to lose by trying to install again in the hopes it may work. You should turn off all Anti-Vvirus software, and your Firewall before installation. Right cllick on the Norton Icon in the Tray, and disable either. Unplug you phone line from the computer so it can not dial out as a precaution.

Is the disk damaged or dirty?
Try copying the entire CD contents onto the hard drive and installing from the hard drive. If you think the Aniti-virus is preventing it from installing try restarting your computer in safe mode.

Well DUH on me  !
I did two things differently - I changed which DVD drive I was using (used the read write drive) and added a 'company name' which was blank before - my new company is MYOB
and voila it decided it could download.
Apparently company name is a required field!
Thanks for your help and tips!
