What does this error message mean? can someone help me?

Post by msjamiep »

ipe.dat.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

I bought and downloaded photo express 6.0 yesterday and this is what I get when I try to open it. I'm frustrated and I wanna play with my program!

please help..

Sounds like a corrupted installation. Were any error messages displayed during the install?
You say this is a download, try downloading again (save to a different location) - The download links are only available for a limited period.

Run the installer again, some products include a repair option.
If you need to do a clean installation the procedure is in the 5th post down here:

still not working- same error message

Post by msjamiep »

Hello there. I did what you suggested and I still get the same error message. I did the re-install and I also redownloaded it to another location.

You asked if there were any error messages during the installation and there wasn't. I just don't understand why it won't work. I've been trying since yesterday. Do you think that my system is incompatible with the software? I downloaded phote express 4 trial a while back and it worked just fine.

Do you have anything else I could try? I sure do appreciate it.

Good question, we know very little about your system. The minimum requirements for PEX are here http://www.ulead.com/pe/sysreq.htm

Hi Jamie,

No even though your system is a little on the low end it does meet the system requirements according to Ulead's site:
* Microsoft® Windows® 2000, XP
* Intel® Pentium® III 450MHz ( 700MHz or higher recommended)
* 64MB of RAM (128 or more recommended)
* 420MB of available hard disk space for program installation
* Windows® - compatible display with at least 800x600 resolution & sound card
* Internet Explorer 5 or above
* CD ROM drive, True Color or High Color display and monitor
* Mouse or WinTab compatible pressure-sensitive graphics tablet
I'll through out somethings for you to try....
Do you have any antivirus software running while trying to install? If so try shutting it down.
You might also try updating you version of Microsoft Installer http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803
Do you have any other Ulead apps currently installed on your system? You mentioned installing the Trial version of Photo Express 4, did you get it completely uninstalled and removed from your system?

However by what you posted it does appear to be a corrupt file. This does happen with ESD software. If you can't get it resolved I would go to Ulead's website and contact Tech support. However it seems their website is running slower then molasses in the artic.

system information

Post by msjamiep »

Here is the system information. Best as I can tell maybe the only problem is that my system is not a Pentium 3. I don't know if its a Pentium 3 or not. Below it says 3 geniune intel 664Hhz... does that mean it is a Pentium 3? As far as I can tell.. everything else jives and I should be able to use this program. Maybe I should just give up. Thanks for your response.

Yes yours is a low end P3. I have a second older compter that is a Gateway. It came from the factory as a 550Mhz with Intel P3. However I have since beefed it up as much as I can, which is now only a 800Mhz P3. I think it would run Photo express, so yours should.

No go

Post by msjamiep »

well............ I turned off the antivirus and also downloaded the windows installer that you suggested.. still same ol message ipe.dat.exe has generated errors. I've tried several things and don't know what else to do. I appreciate your help and your humor (ulead slow as molassis in Alaska) I needed to laugh... Its not good to stroke out over a silly program. I did manage to order the backup CD so maybe when I recieve that.. it could possibly work for me. Otherwise.. guess I'll jsut see abotu a refund, I hope. I'll tell ya.... I'm sure gonna be leary about buying software to be downloaded from now on.
Hope you have a great night. Thank you again.
