Extra content for MF5? What is it and where is old content?

Post by ruggy1 »

I have been busily transfering 'content' from my old MF4 program directories to MF5. I have managed to greatly add to the 'background' directory of .ufo files and also the 'frames' and the 'music' directories. The supplied 'Menu' templates that were numerous in MF4 have all but disappeared in MF5 - just a paltry few!! I would like to do as I did above and add to their numbers by copying from MF4 directories, but the structure has changed in MF5 and I cannot determine which directories to put extra 'Menu' templates into. Also there used to be a choice of templates via a drop down menu, things like 'Romantic', 'Vacations', 'Special Occasions', 'Sport' etc. I cannot find this structure in MF5. Can anyone please help me here? Thanks.

I'm glad you asked. I am at work at the moment so unable to check this out myself and when I get home I have a lot of work to do on a MSP8 project. However......

In my Tutorial "Creating a DVD menu From Scratch using PhotoImpact"
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11378
It was discovered that you had to make DVD MF4 create a folder for your custom menus here is an extract from that thread.
Glennmizu

After thinking again about your post I checked the various user settings I have on my multi boot computer and could see that there was just one user (myself) with this folder. It seems that you need to create the folder

C:/Documents and Settings/my name/My Documents/Ulead DVD MovieFactory4.0 Dics Creator

By following these steps:
1. Open Movie Factory 4
2. Go through the steps to create a DVD - dont take too much time here, I intend to cancel this once we complete stage 4
3. When you get to the screen showing the available DVD templates click the customize button (middle left of screen), make a small change (dont take too much time, you will be discarding it later.)
4. Select Add to Menu Template
5. This creates the above folder
C:/Documents and Settings/my name/My Documents/Ulead DVD MovieFactory4.0 Dics Creator

You can now exit Movie Factory 4 and can also delete from the newly created folder the menu you just created in step 4 above.

Thank you for drawing my attention to this matter.

I haven't yet had time to play about with MF5 but I would suspect it works in much the same way as version 4. If you could perhaps try the above and then reply to this thread to see if this works. I could not find a way of creating seperate categories in MovieFactory (like I did for Video Studio) but at least you would get the existing templates into your custom folder providing the above works.

Thanks sjj1805 for replying, but I do not have any personal menu templates as I do not use Photoimpact. All I want to do is keep the standard MF4 templates that came with MF4 and transfer them to MF5. They should have been in MF5 by default but every new MF version seems to discard the goodies from the old. I have also succeeded in copying the Music files across, but as with the Menu Templates I am at a loss when trying to get MF5 to at least have more than the few Layout Templates that were delivered - MF4 had much more - where are they and how can I get MF5 to work at least as much 'Content' as MF4??? Thanks

I am suggesting that you use the existing MF4 Templates.
Their location is contained in my tutorial (link as above.)
It would be a bonus if you had PhotoImpact as you could create more!

Hi,
You can add directories and name them separately making them custom.
If you want to add all the MF4 templates is easy.

Make sure MF3/4 and 5 are Not running.

Location of the MF4 templates:
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.0 Disc Creator\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.0\Template -->(Sub-directories of templates).

First off the program separates the 2 different aspect ratios in direct relation to whatever you have the aspect ratio Icon set at (bottom of the menu creation screen).

So on the bottom of the screen make sure the aspect ratio is set to the correct sub-directory in MF5.

The following location is to copy the 4x3 menu templates.

Location to copy the "Complete Directories" to:
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5\Content\Menu Template\4x3 --> (subdirectories you want to ADD/Copy from MF3/4).

Copy the complete directories Under the 4x3 directories (this makes them subdirectories) IF your templates are 4x3. When you start MF5 it will load them in.

After you have them loaded in click on the "Aspect Ratio" icon on the bottom of the screen and change it to 16:9. You will see the MF4 templates disappear because MF5 is now using the 16x9 sub-directory which you haven't copied anything into yet.

Hope this helps,

That was quick and painless and worked a treat. I will copy your post over to the Tutorial on creating DVD menus from Scratch.

Thank you

Another Useful Tip for MF5: How to show the "Drop Frame Counter"
By Default MF4/5 doesn't display dropped frames. Possibly because doing so may take up cpu power on slower systems. Especially on direct to disk function.

For experienced users to display "Drop Frames".

Program Configuration Files (Hidden Directory "Application Data")
Directory = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\5.0
Configuration File = DVDMFCap.ini

Default Settings: Specific Section:

[CAPTURE_SETTING]
ShowCaptureInfo=0 (This is the default NOT to show "Dropped Frames"
AutoDropBitRate=1 (If frames are dropped maybe automatically drop the bitrate to a lower value?)
ForceTOUsePreviewMode=1

New Settings to Display the Drop Frame Counter
[CAPTURE_SETTING]
ShowCaptureInfo=1 (Change this to a one)
AutoDropBitRate=1
ForceTOUsePreviewMode=1

The "Drop Frame" counter is only visible during the active capturing process.

Hope this helps,

MD,
Thank you again. This has prompted me to start a new thread in the Tutorial Section "Useful Tips". Every now and again a user posts tips like these but over a period of time they disappear into oblivion as new posts arrive and push them down into the depths.

Thanks for all your advice, but the question still remqins - what did the nearly 90MB of 'content' actually give me? All I can see is a Ulead 'quickDrop' icon in my tray that takes up 70MB of system memory and delays my boot up by at least a minute or two. I have now deleted this from startup!

Ruggy,
When quickdrop does load close it and it will be removed from memory.
If you right-click on the quickdrop box and select the setup options
simply uncheck "Load when windows starts".

I don't load it. But, if I want to use it I run the program. Burn whatever
and then exit the program.

I noticed much of the extra-content was audio files, pictures and transisions etc. Plus the menu templates.

Back to Menu Templates I'm afraid. MF5 has SEVERE restrictions on the number of Menu Templates. After copying all my MF4 menu templates (nicely separated into 'Babies' right through to 'Vacations') into the MF5 directory .../content/Menu Template/4x3/One Scene Button (should I have put them somewhere else??) I rebooted and tried MF5 again. Most of the menus I moved into MF5 were displayed as options under 'Thumbnail Template' (??) but some (MF2 to MF20 and DG1 to DG39) had a name but no image. On top of this, MF5 slowed to a crawl until I realised that all the additional menu templates had suddenly blown out MF5 memory requirements to well over 1GB of RAM as opposed to the normal 300-400MB of MF4, so my computer was swapping like crazy - just for a few extra templates. Something is severely wrong with MF5's memory management.
Why do we we have to go through things like this every time MF is upgraded. I have been in the IT industry for 30 years and the bottom line with ALL decent software upgrades is that you KEEP previous functionality in any new version, or at least provide a migration path. I am disgusted. All I wanted was my well loved MF4 functionality with HD capability, and what have I got????????
