JoLo;
I don't know much about PI11 but I can tell you the first time I heard Sonny Boy Williamson I was hooked.

Honest opinions on Photoimpact upgrade from 10 to 11
I too have had every version of PhotoImpact since version 3 and I now have PI11. To be honest, unless you're into Photography, I don't see any reason under the sun to update. It has nothing new for the artist and painter types. No new filters, nothing.
My personal opinion is, I do not like PI11 - I think the interface is plain and ugly. They went from a double tool column down the left side to a single column and I have to scroll down to get to all of the tools. I also don't like the 5 different modes. It's very confusing to newer users trying to do tutorials for older versions. They don't know to change to the advanced mode and can't find most of the tools mentioned.
I use PI10 which is very stable and am quite happy with it. My PI11 just sits there and looks at me.

Opinions as to why the plethora of bugs?
I've used PI 7, 8, XL, and now 10. I got the usual email about upgrading to 11 a while back, and waited to hear the actual user reviews.
The bugs and issues I'm reading about here are far more plentiful than with any other version of PI. Maybe the forum is more active now, who knows.
Anyway, my question is--does anyone know if there was a major change at Ulead--specifically, some pencil-pusher's bright idea to outsource some of the development?

When reading through the Advert sent by Ulead, I realised the PI 11 does't have much to offer that isn't part of PI10 - (Coming fro PI 5 as well). PI 10 is great and I use it for all my graphics in videos, websites and CD presentations.
After my experiences with MSP8 and Movie Factory 5 I've decided never to upgrade a new version again before the first SP, as it seems like the first versions are shipped to Beta test the programs. (Just read ths forum and those for MSP* and MF5 and you willsee what I mean). Unfortunately to the cost of Ulead, most people will just chuck the "try before you buy versions" to find some other software that is more stable.
Pitty, Ulead products have served me well over the last 8 years. I'm trying my best not to get negative about the flaws in new releases and hope for SP asap.
I'll stay loyal for now. - Without PI 11.

ThanksJolo,
This is the thread I was looking for. I dont do photographic editing. I bought Video Studio 10 and now I find out that if I want to create custome menus, I need to make .UFO files. Of course the only program that makes UFO file are Ulead products. I was told that Photo Impact will do what I need. V11 sounds like a mess and V10 sounds like it was pretty stable.
So I can save money buy buying the older package and use it to do the limited features I want.
Guess which one I'm going to get?
keenart: Chill out. Questions are not personal attacks. Jolo was looking for the some information. The same information I wanted. People come to these forum to get information and ask opnions. I'm thankful to all those who tool the time to give their opnions.

I see PI10 for $29.95 on Ebay, though I've never bought anything on Ebay and hesitate a little. At that price, or close to it, it's not a bad add-on to VS10+ at all (which has been an issue as I evaluate video editing software)--and I'll never miss PI11, it seems like. I do have some additional graphic editing needs from time to time and it sounds as if it would handle them pretty well.
I agree, the questions lead to answers, and the answers are very useful. Frankly, having a strong user community is a real plus for any product. I am willing to overlook some issues/glitches with a product if it has good balance of functionality and ease of use, and the ability to get answers so readily from people who know the product (sometimes to rather amazing, passionate depths) is part of that.
Now back to the day job that pays for all these goodies

What changes from XL?
I've used several versions of Photoimpact and am now on XL
The upgrades haven't looked too tempting so far
Many products get to a stage in the development cycle where the developers implement changes for the sake of it, bells and whistles, rather than what customers want.
Is there a wish list anywhere for the next version and would Ulead take any notice of it?
What I'm looking for from XL might have been fixed, I don't know
Text has always come out blurry when optimised in jpg for the web - compared to Paintshop Pro, which is lovely and crisp - I have to use PSP for text unfortunately. Has this been fixed yet?
Are there more icons (component designer), what with Web 2.0 being very simple designs, rounded icons, drop shadows etc in the latest version?
Thankyou
Richard
