Alright - I am using a Ulead VideoStudio 9.0 Trial Version. I have used Adobe Premiere before, but want something a little simpler and more direct. Thought that maybe Ulead would be the way to go as I've seen many positives posted.
But I've put many hours into this project - converting video, trimming, viewing, etc and I've got all of the clips arranged like I want them and am working on the titles, transitions, etc.
Now I am running into problems. When I try to add a title slide, I get a "Insufficient Memory" error. It also just happened as I was moving clips around in the timeline.
Here are the required details as listed in the post in the forum:
SUBJECT: Please use a subject that describes your exact problem instead of making us guess what's in your post.
Nature of the problem:
I am trying to add title slides, fade in and fade out between slides, and moving clips around. The project is for class and I am using clips from home videos and video I have shot and small clips from three different source film DVDs that deal with the topic of the presentation. In all, I have about 22 clips with a total run time of half an hour. When I try to add titles or fades or move some of the clips, I get Insufficient Error messages. I have 1GB of 4400 RAM and 17 GB on the 10000 RPM C: drive.
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
The files are from my home video camera, from a VCR recording of the 2006 Oscars, and 2 films. All formats have been put into .avi formats that are not DivX - UVS has no problem with the audio or video - only when I try and add titles or move them around. One file is 2.5 GB and the other file is 2.9 GB (for the films) from which the clips have been taken. Both of these files are located on my storage drive (F:) and I have 80GB of space left on there. So I am working on my C: drive while the film's avi files are on the F: drive. Could that cause this problem?
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
There are no peripheral devices involved. All are on my hard drives.
Project Settings
NTSC drop fram (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720x480, 29.97
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
Eventually, I'm planning on publishing to a DVD so that I can show it in class on a DVD player rather than have to lug my laptop and speakers around.
Error Codes (if any)
"Insuffienct Memory"
"Out of Memory"
System information
Windows XP Professional
1GB 4400 RAM
nVidia 6800 GTOC Ultra video card
Athlon 3800+ 64 bit processor
And yes, I did search - but the errors that were listed in the search didn't fix my problem. It's not hard drive space it seems. I wonder if I have enough memory?
But I run dual monitors as well and kept the Task Manager up on the second monitor so I can keep an eye on it and things seem to be fine - usage will be no higher than 50% and that's rare. Then, it will just spike to the high 90s and freeze on me - sometimes shut down completely.
Any advice is most appreciated!
I was hoping UVS would be the easier-to-use answer. And to this point, it's performed more than admirably.

Hi
Dv-Avi files are about 13 Gb per hour.
17 Gb on your C drive will be used very quickly.
Although you do say that the files are on the F drive.
Change your working folder to one on the F Drive.
File preferences—working folder
VS 9 also uses a different working folder for the burner. From the burner stage, Hit the icon lower left and select properties.
You say--- Then, it will just spike to the high 90s and freeze on me - sometimes shut down completely.---
Do you have any other programs running in the background, anti virus scan etc ?????????????

Take a look at the following and in particular the bit about making your pagefile a fixed size.

Alright -
I think it must've been an issue with the hard disk on which I was working. I moved my preference to the F: drive and had no memory errors after that. A couple of freezes when I tried to preview the entire project but nothing serious.
Thanks so much -
About to create a video file now that all has been trimmed, edited, and title slides added as needed.
Thanks so much for the help.
