I fear I am having a "Senior Moment"!
As you know doubt will construe from this Post, I am new to editing...
I am using Media Studio Pro and am having a problem with burning a DVD. Basically I want a DVD that will play 16:9 High Quality Video on both computer and TV DVD units.
Tape that I used for editing was from Canon XL-2, 16:9, AVI. Have added .WAV background sound. Editing, sound insertion, fades, and the like are all fine. Editing was the easy part...
My problems start when I try to burn the DVD...
Have tried saving in MPEG and AVI formats prior to burn, have gone through instructions many times, and have (actually) read the manual!!!... I know I am overlooking something very BASIC but can't figure out what...
The previews , played just prior to burning, in Media Studio and DVD Workshop look and sound great BUT when I burn to a DVD (using a NEC DVD+-RW 3530A DVD/CD (using DVD-R Disc) Internal Recorder, Win XP Pro, Dell 670 Workstation, Audigy 2ZS Sound Card, N-Vidia 1400 video card) I get Video that "flickers" at the bottom of the image and absolutely NO AUDIO AT ALL (Ditto on TV image).
In "Opening" the DVD file I find the Audio Folder is empty.
If some compassionate soul out there could take me under their wing I would appreciate it if you could send me a list of the specific settings I would use to accomplish: High Quality Video, 16:9 Format, NSTC, Stereo Sound, that can be played both on computer (LCD Display(s)) and on LCD, Conventional, and Plasma TV's.
Thanks, in advance, for any any assistance... I know I am at about 8 on a scale of 10 in the "Dumb" range and that I am missing something basic... could really use some help.
Media Studio Pro-DVD Burn... No Audio, Flickering
Well, there are a number of points which need to be brought up. The first is that you will never get good quality that will play on a computer monitor and on a TV; it is one or the other. This is because, in the first case, you will not want interlacing and, in the second case, you will want it. If you have the interlacing when you do not need it or vice versa, then any horizontal movement in the image will look peculiar. You therefore have to decide, before burning a DVD, whether it is for use in a computer or in a DVD player.
Assuming that your project has a duration of less than 90 minutes, I suggest that you try burning with a constant bit rate of 6000 kbit/s for the video and AC three (Dolby Digital) 192 kbit/s for the audio. If you overspecify the bit rate, it is possible that anything will happen.
Under most circumstances the AUDIO_TS directory is always empty. The audio is normally multiplexed with the video and is not recorded separately.

Mostly for Computer... However... Why NO audio at all?
Thanks for the reply... The problem I run into is that my project is for Marine Videos that deal with cruising in the Pacific Northwest. They would be used in conjunction with a Marine Navigation program that is computer based and will show various anchorage entrances and passages in the NW. As such, the main usage ( I think) would be on a computer with a DVD player... However, I can also see users using it at home on their DVD players and TV to "preview" a trip.
That being said, what would be, if you had to pick, the best format for burn...
I still wonder where the flickering is coming from and why I have absolutely NO audio when the burn is complete.

I suggest you try the settings that I mentioned in my previous post, and then tell us whether it works or not. Many NTSC systems do not support all types of audio settings; AC3 is your best bet, while being economical with disk space.

Devil... Tried the Settings
Thanks again for the reply... I tried your settings (as well as anything else that seemed to make sence) in BOTH Media Studio Pro and in DVD Workshop... The Previews played perfectly! ...When I burned the DVD there was still NO SOUND... I tried burning the project having saved it both AVI and MPEG ( saved to separate folders) with no luck.
Interestingly enough I took the EXACT same files, imported them into Sonic DVDit and burned them.... They turned out fine... sound and all. on BOTH computer and TV :
In addition to the "no sound" issue I also get a "fluttering" on the bottom of the playback in MS PRO and Workshop... not so with the blayback of the DVDit burn...
Obviously, I want to use Ulead for the whole production... Now what?
