Hi there. I recently captured three vhs tapes into mpg files so that I could put them onto dvd with chapters. I was able to do this successfully with one mpg file.
My problem is that with the other two mpg files, I can not import them. I click on the Add Media icon and the file selection dialog opens. As soon as I click on one of the problem files and before the file name even gets highlighted, the system appears to hang. If I leave it along for about 15 minutes, eventually the file name appears in the 'open' text box, allowing me to click the OK button. When I do this, the system again goes into thinking mode for a few minutes at the end of which nothing has happened. The clip has not been added to the project.
I have a fast P4 with plenty of disk and 512mb memory. All 3 mpg files appear to have the same resolution and bit rate.
I suspect that MF is mistakenly trying to convert formats.

Can't import certain mpg clips - appears to hang
I too am having the same problem. I'm running MF 6.0 Plus on a Vista machine. I can add .avi clips with no problem. But, when I attempt to add an .mpg clip, Vista reports that the program (MF 6.0) has stopped responding. Of course, I then have to close the program.
Any help on this very frustrating matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

We have two separate issues here unless videoturf is using Vista also. There are a lot of unexplainable issues with Vista and MF and VS. I would stay clear of Vista at this point in time and also revert back to MF 5 and/or VS 10+
In videoturf's case I suspect a corrupted capture of the anlog video. How exactly did you capture the video and what are its properties now?

Hmmm....I thought MF 6.0 was compatible with Vista...There are a lot of unexplainable issues with Vista and MF...
In any event, I have some just discovered info to add: Much as videoturf describes, if I let MF 6.0 sit for about 15 minutes, the .mpg clip can be added to my project. I just don't understand why it takes 15 minutes for an .mpg file, yet it's instantaneous for an .avi file.
Also, for what it's worth: The .avi's (that work flawlessly) were recorded with a Sony Camcorder model #: DCR-TRV27. The .mpg's (which are giving the problem) were recorded on a Sony DSC T7.

I have had lots of problems over the years with capturing/editing mpeg files and for that reason don't even try anymore.Ron_In_FL wrote:Hmmm....I thought MF 6.0 was compatible with Vista...![]()
So is VS 11![]()

If you are talking about DV-AVI, that's not surprising. DV-AVI is not encoded at "capture". In fact, it's not even "captured" but simply transferred from the camcorder. Mpeg, regardless of the settings and type, is encoded. either by a hardware encoder or by the PC during capture. During that process files have been known to get corrupted. Just because the file will eventually show up on the time line does not mean it will actually work either.
