firewireb input for DVD MovieFactory 5

Does anyone know if this software supports these cards? Or VideoStudio 9?

Which cards? Fire wire (IEEE1394)? Of course they do, all VideoStudio, MediaStudioPro and MovieFactory versions do.

Heinz,

MAC's started using the new faster 1394b interfaces first. Max rate is 800mbs. Windows has had problems with it and there are patches.

Google for firewireb and check it out.

Here is one link.
http://www.datoptic.com/cgi-bin/web.cgi ... detail=yes

It's still "Device Dependent".
Technically, standard firewire has different bitrates and 400mbs is the max.
Sony firewire units are "S100" and the DV transfers at 100 mbs (not 400).
Sony defines the rates as "S100", "S200" & "S400". Depends on the interface circuitry.

Unless you have a device that needs over 400mbs then a 800mbs card connected to a standard DV cam does nothing.

Here is a link to a full 800mbs device by Sony.

Hope this helps,

MD

Hi,
I think a person that never makes mistakes can't know very much.
I just don't like my expensive mistakes :(

I first learned about the 800mbs protocal from a relative that does all
their audio productions on Macintosh machines.
The Mac's started using the 800mbs first I think before windows.
That's going into the professional line. An 800mbs device needs a 800mbs interface and all the other 800mbs storage devices etc.
The snowball effect.
For the MAC's transferring and storing large audio files I think it was a
cheaper solution compared to the ultra-wide scsi drives. Plus the need
for portability.

SIIG Inc. FireWire 800 (1394b) 3-port (1394b x 2, 1394a x 1) CardBus PC card

I've seen a kit with VideoStudio 7, so I would assume it would work with VideoStudio 9 but we can't seem to find any information provided by Ulead stating the software can work with 1394b.

There is a 30 day free trial available of Video Studio 9 and MF5
Perhaps you could download a copy and then let the rest of us know the outcome.

1394b or Firewire Wire b uses a 9 pin cable which is uaually not available on consumer video cameras. The Connection is about 1/4 in, square and will not fit in any of the 1394a connections.

I have a ADS 1394b PCI card, it has two 1394b ports and one 1394a port.
The 1394a port works with all my firewire 1394a camecorders, Sony Digital 8, Sony Mini DV and Sony HDR-HC1.

The 1394b ports work with my ADS 1394b external case which has a Pioneer 110D DVD writer installed. This set up allows the drive to write at 16X.

I would imagine if there were video cameras that had the 1394b interface they would be able to communicate a 800Mips, because the operating system is controlling the devices and not the application.
