Steve,
As your reply to this thread is with good intentions, it is also commending outright plagiarism. This user violated the copyright works of Nick Jushchyshyn. He has created video tutorials using Nick's web-based tutorials and hand-written filters for his own profit. As many of us, long-termed users of Media Studio Pro have come to know Nick, we can only be thankful for all of his hard work and generosity. As a moderator myself, I just felt you should be aware of the negative act you are endorsing.

IMO, all of his posts should be removed from this forum. Let him market his CD elsewhere.

How would you like it if all your tutorials were taken by a member here or from an Ulead employee and marketed and sold earning themselves profit? Think about it. I hope Nick takes legal action, his website clearly states copyright.

Compare. All of Nick's work is copyright 2004, this Mike, mehtan or other alias just released his CD. Outright plagiarism and should be banned from posting.

Ron.
Thank you for bringing this to my atention, you have obviously spotted something that I still haven't been able to see.

I have looked at
http://www.seeitdoit.tv/msp7free/msp7f.html
Where there are 8 Free Tutorials none of which resemble anything on the second site I have looked at.
This site also points to a link to http://www.seeitdoit.tv/ where there is a
"Ulead® Media Studio Pro® 7.x Video Tutorials"
"See it do it Series: Movie Based Training"
Running Time: 3 hours $25.00 USD.
I have not purchased this book and so I cannot comment on its contents.

The second site you have mentioned
http://jushhome.com/nick/tutorials.asp
Contains 12 Free Tutorials none of which appear to be anything like those provided on the site above.
There is no link that I can see that points to further tutorials offered for sale.
Perhaps I am not looking in the right location.

Could you please therefore be more specific and provide specific links comparing like with like.
The open forum may not be the best place for you to do this as you yourself may be open to accusations of making unfair remarks and so you may email me directly at steve.j.jones@blueyonder.co.uk

Steve,
It's Rob not Ron. Let's see. Muzzle flashes, "Pleasantville effect", lightsabers, hologram, etc... What are you looking at?

Rob,
http://www.seeitdoit.tv/msp7free/msp7f.html
Obviously not the right place, you wouldn't be posting this unless you found something.
If you mean they are in the book (Which I don't have and being a moderator doesnt mean I have to go out and buy everything ever written about ulead) then I suggest you report the matter to the forum administrator to have the posts removed.

It's here, the ones he is marketing for $.
http://www.seeitdoit.tv/

This is where you will see Nick's work plagiarized along with the same titles.

I don't know if you guys scared this guy, but I went to check, and all the $$$ samples are down. I wonder why  hummm....
Producing and providing helpful tutorials is great, but to take another artist's work to profit for yourself, well I do hope Nick is aware of this...

Folks,

We have 45 tutorials (8 free tutorials) in total on MediaStudio Pro 7. Most of the ideas and concepts for these tutorials came from experimentation, Ulead product documentation, commerically available books and forums like MUGs and Ulead's Web Board - the usual way anyone would gain knowledge. There is no single product on the net which gives so many MSP7 tips and techniques at one place like ours does. So we think it is a good piece of work.

In his post, rwernyei has mentioned that we "stole" 3 tutorials from jushhome.com/nick/tutorials.asp. This is a stretch.
We got the intial idea from Jushhome.com, but used our words and footage to describe the techniques. Specifically, we read Nick's tutorials to create 3 tutorials: the Pleasantville effect, Gun flash and light saber tutorials. Also, we enhanced his tutorials in many ways:

1. Created a movie tutorial.

2. We used our own words in the commentary/narration of the video.

3. The video footage used in tutorials is our own.

4. We added the technique of displaying TWO light sabers having DIFFERENT colors. Jush only shows one light saber. We also mode minor modifications to the technique that appealed to us.

5. We are also active in the blogging community as well where we comment on user questions and answer them whenever possible. We are working hard to release a few more FREE tutorials such as the Hewlett Packard (HP) photo frame effect and other cool effects, which users are requesting.

We had always mentioned Nick's work in our product. However, we have now explicity and prominently displayed both his URL and name with a courtesy reference on our main product page. Hope this clarifies the issue.

In conclusion, we feel, we are making a valuable contribution to the user community.

Regards
Mike Foster

I'm sorry but this is plagiarism. His work is copyrighted at his website. His tutorials are to help others as free domain to integrate into their own works whether home or for business use. But to market his filters and the same techniques with your little modifications is still plagiarist. Example: The same as taking a line from a book without crediting the author, handing in somebody elses work with your name on it, etc, etc, etc.... Apparently, you never learned this in higher education. You are probably one that failed out of school.

Making reference to Nick is all nice and dandy, but one needs his approval to market and sell his ideas for your own profit. There is no quick way to success and your shortcut may indeed have its consequences. Only time will tell.
NickJushchyshyn

Who is this "nick" guy anyway. :p

Hey all.
Thank you for all your support, diligence and several emails on this.

Generally, I'd be very upset about someone using (even recreating) my work for their own profit without asking. In the creative business it's important to always remember that all we HAVE is our ideas, and even the ones we share for free have their own value and their own uses. In the past, I've licensed tutorials to other websites and even published some in the OReilly Press book Digital Video Hacks and in all cases (paid licenses or not) they've always provided an obvious and clear link back to my site.

In the case of the Ulead Media Studio Pro specific tutorials, I'm happy to share for free so long as credit and a link to the originals is made.

I haven't watched these video tutorials, but now that there is an obvious credit and link to the originals on the page describing the offering (and apparently within the tutorials), I'm happy that the tutorials are being used and expanded upon.

"Plagiarize" and "stole" are very strong words which should generally be reserved for when all facts are clearly known.
Let's just chalk this one up as an early oversight which appears to have been corrected.

To the folks at seeitdoit,
Thanks for including the credit on your site and in your tutorials. It seems to me that with your free tutorials and low cost video offerings you are indeed making a contribution to the MSP user community.

Thanks again to everyone for your consideration and efforts.
Have fun.

:)

EDIT: Please note, the filters should not be redistributed in any way.
Original tutorials on using them are fine, but the filters should be downloaded from the jushhome site rather than distributed on a CD or download from another site.
Thanks.
