Alan,

I know very little about the PureHD Upscaler. It is a registered trademark, by either Intervideo or Ulead. Simply it upscales your SD (Standard Definition) video to work with HD video projects. If I were to take a wild guess, it just allows backward compatibilty, so that you can use videos that are SD with any HD...

Now that explaination was about as clear as fog wasn't it??? :)

I have only recently bought VS9 and whilst I like the ease of capture and editing I have big issues with the "sharing" part of this s/w and use third party (mainly freeware!) packages to circumvent these shortcomings. I am recently retired and this is only the second package of "domestic" software I have bought. By the standards I expected in my professional environment this software is atrocious, has appalling help files, a dreadful manual, and seems to rely on this forum for users to generate work arounds. Without this forum I would by now have returned this package to the retailer for a full refund!

Thanks Vidoman re:Pure HD Upscaler

I assumed that's what it was but thanks for confirmation.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the run down.

Does VS 10 have the Internet Activation "feature"?

Peter,

I'm not 100% sure on this but I don't believe so. I did mention to them the problems with downloads, and with ESDs not having a repair. I was told that they were working to solve them.

I bought Movie Factory 5 upgrade ESD (download) version about a week ago. The system employed with this one was that it firstly asked you for the serial number for version 5. It then asked you for the serial number of your older version.

Well that's better then the internet activation. :) I know when I purchased Video Graphics Lab, I had to enter the serial number for MSP8...

Hear, hear, let me second (third) that.

Internet activation is a no-no for me. My video production computer is never going to go on internet, not even on the LAN.
I would simply NOT install any software if it REQUIRES net connection.

I agree. No Internet Activation for me. I had a belly full of that when Turbo Tax tried it a couple of years ago. What a mess! I have no intention of installing software that requires cookies or any other active software in my computer.

Ulead should stick to fixing chronic bugs before adding new bells and whistles:
1. Downloads with better error detection and correction to prevent corrupted downloads.
2. Installation architecture that can't get corrupted at the drop of a hat. Ulead should really encapsulate its various files in one folder instead of spraying them all over hell's half acre on the disk.
3. Create an effective tech support that actually tries to help with a problem rather than responding to every request with multipage instructions to reinstall Video Studio...
etc.

Motion menus

Post by martindekker »

Hi,

I'm gonna buy VS10 anyway  but just out of curiousity...

I like motion menu's, the only problem I had with VS9 was that one couldn't set the starting point of the clip of a menu item: it always starts from the beginning. As I always have my video's fade in, it meant that every 30 secs all menu items turned black: ugly. That actually was the only reason I bought DMF (which I recently upgraded to v5). Now, I'm just curious to know if it is possible in VS10 to have motion menu items start from a user specified point in the video.

When you are creating the menus, are you changing the thumnail? If you change the thumbnail to the clip, to some point in the clip, then the motion menu will loop from the clp forward up to 30 secs., so the black start of the clip should not be seen. I just tried it (in VS10+ beta) and works fine.. However It also works in VS9..

Motion Menus

Post by martindekker »

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your prompt reply :D I was actually refering to an issue I started a thread about a long time ago:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... highlight=

Appearently other users experienced the same. Even though in the UI it seemed that you could let a menu item clip start at a user specified point, in the actual movie it started from the beginning of the clip anyway (despite the setting you made). Maybe it has been solved in an update pack (but not mentioned in the "release notes"), but I haven't actually tried again afterwards... as I had DMF to do the job now anyway 8) .

Q1. Will UVS 10 support Win64 OS?

A1: UVS 10 will support to run on Win64 OS.

Q2: Will UVS 10 support dual core CPUs?

A2: Yes, it will support dual core CPUs.
still no clear for me, better questions:

is UVS 10 supporting Win64 OS NATIVELY (written in 64 bits)??

is UVS 10 taking advantage of dual core cpus for faster renders and performance?

thanks.

I agree with you John - when VS10 comes out I'll wait until somebody reports that they defintely didn't need to use activation of any kind before they could use the product - if that doesn't happen then I'll start to think about shifting away from ULead.
