There is no need to uninstall any exisiting Ulead products.
The only clash we often hear about on the forum is when someone downloads a trial version then wants to replace the trial version with a full version. In those circumstances the forum always recommends that you uninstall the trial version first.

Having said that there is a known minor problem when installing MediaStudio 8 onto a computer that already has MediaStudio 7 where the audio filters are affected. See here for details: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8485

Steve, I was referring to the fact that I hace Windows MCE which does not work with MSP8 or DVDMF - the TV signal is lost! To get the TV signal back I would have to un-install these programs. Someone else did advise that Ulead did not list Windows MCE as being compatable with thise program so I canot complain - however if I bought VS10 I would want Windows MCE to work alongside MSP8 and DVDMF - which it won't - unless you know if Ulead are going to provide a fix.
Thanks for your interest, David

For the TV signal issue, have you contacted the manufacturer of the capture device to see if there is an issue on their driver?

It might just be a possible reason that the driver is not compatible with Ulead and need some help from the manufacturer of the device.

Hope this helps.

HT, I have the latest driver installed but will investigate further.
I wonder if it will work OK with VS10? Do you think it is worth me un-installing all other Ulead products to get MCE TV signal back, then downloading the trial version of VS10 and seeing if that works?

I am very excited about the newest features. The 2 main features I liked about Premiere Elements 2.0 is the audio showing the actual levels of sound, and also to be able to customize where the buttons go on DVD menus. It looks like that is a new option in the version 10. Am I right?? But my #1 absolute most important feature that I pray they fixed, is can you save your menus after you create them and then close the program. I create slideshows for people, and if I spend all my time making the menu, and they want to add 1 picture, I have to redo the menus all over again. IS THIS FIXED???? If it is, I will say this is the greatest software for making slideshows EVER!!! Thanks to all the people on here to help all of us out when we have problems. You guys are awesome!!!

One question about VS10 which I had been meaning to ask, but which just came back to me, was whether Ulead/Intervideo have changed the silly file naming system used by previous versions of VS. I realise it is a relatively minor point, but it is my single greatest annoyance with VS since I started using it with VS7. I still cannot understand what is so difficult about letting the user assign a file name for a particular sequence, and then, if they want, Ulead can let the program assign its gobbledegook of numbers. I know that in reality this goobledegook contains useful information like date etc. But what is wrong with, say, Australia 001, Australia 002 and so on??? Other programs in the same price range as VS can do it -- why can't Ulead?

at the risk of asking a "easy" (not to me) question...

I just purchased the "non plus" version and am an extreme lamer at all this. I am wanting to copy a bunch of videos that were created in windows Movie Maker and are in wmv format.
To have them play on "any" DVD player do I need to convert them all o another format first?

Thanks so much.

WHOA! I just saw the size of my avatar!! I'll be changing that pronto...
sorry

Ken ,

That is a very good question, and I wished I had thought of that while testing. However I must admit, during the beta testing there really was not any time for feature requests. It seemed that Ulead already had all of that decided. Maybe, and I wouldn't hold my breath, for the SP (which there has to be one, due to some keyframe issues on filters) they could take that up too..

John

Yes you will have to convert the WMV files to a DVD Compliant file, which is MPEG2. However be advised that WMV files are highly compressed, and that you stand to loose quality, if you do much editing. They of course will be re-encoded. You could of course use a 3rd party conversion program, like Super to convert them. A link to the Super program can be found here:

Saving menus

Post by Ken Berry »

One thing I have just noticed, which I haven't seen referred to till now, is that in VS10's burning module, when you close it at whatever stage of building the menu, it automatically saves the menu. A nice -- and overdue -- touch, given the problem people have had with previous versions, losing their menus and having to start afresh...

Vidoman -- I have now answered my own question re the file naming convention used in VS10, viz. exactly the same as previous versions and no option to use your own (at least as far as I have been able to find so far!)

I will be the first to admit that once again, my fault I made a purchase for DVD software that likely I'm not going to figure out. Time after time I look after the GUI and think, "wow, this looks cool and easy" only to find out after the fact in forums such as these, that the "PROCESS" is MUCH more involved than the point and click that the ads lead you to believe!
God bless you folks that can figure all this out :)

I've tried 4-5 times, each taking 6-10 hours only to come up empty. I do realize it's me, but my, my how many od "me's" are out there that just end up eating the software.
BTW, I recomend a little honey mustard.

John,

How about you post a new thread outlining your problems (see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959). Maybe someone can help.

Have you read the Recommended Procedure? http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27

Make sure you fill in your system info and provide as much detail as possible regarding:
a. How are you getting your footage into your computer (firewire, capture card, etc.)
b. The properties of your clips (right click on a clip)
c. The properties of your project (File>Project Properties)
d. The steps you are taking, from capture-thru edit-to finished product

Hang in there, we've all been in your shoes at one time or another.

VS10+ and Audio Sync Issue

Post by lameco »

I have a 2.0 GHZ PC with 1GB RAM. I just downloaded my upgrade to VideoStudio 10 Plus last week. I tried to capture some video straight to MPEG-2 and had some Audio sync issues. I then deviced to capture to DV AVI first. No sync problems. Then I tried to generate my MEPG-2 file again. My settings for the new file are 4400 KB/Sec Video and 192KB 2 Channel Dolby Digital Audio. Still Audio Sync issues. I have all other programs shutdown and disabled all processes that aren't necessary before starting VS10+. Any help? Can I see a patch coming? Before this PC I edited on PCs below 1GHz with VS3 thru VS8. Didn't have this issue.

I just checked a disc I made with footage I captured using my Hauppage PVR 150 rather than my firewire. When I made my DVD-RW converting from MPEG-2 with MPEG Audio to MPEG-2 (same video settings) to 2 Channel Dolby Digital the audio sync was fine. The problem so far looks like when its converting DV AVI to MPEG-2.

Also I do 2 hard drives in my PC. A drive for Windows XP and a drive for just video files.
