Which is best environment to develop my slideshow in?

Post by dstuart003 »

have 200+ slides in 6 or so slideshows, want to insert 5 video clips (<15 secs each) into composite show between slideshows, plus add background music and occasional voice-over narration. Started in PS3, but maybe should move to MF4? Also, within PS3, there are 'create slideshow DVD' vs 'create themed slideshow' options - which is best for my requirements and can you move projects between them (seems like not). I already started organizing the slideshows in PS3 Themed, but not sure whether I should continue or move to one of the other before adding video clips and sound. I'm a newbie and looking for guidelines. Help! :!:

Hi,

I've never used PS3 however I believe the project files are "supposed" to be compatible with PS4 but not MF4. That said, it's almost always a good rule of thumb to stay within your original application version in order to avoid frustrating problems which perhaps shouldn't occur but often do.

Looking at MF4, it's slideshow UI is very similar to PS4 however I believe PS4 actually has a few additional slideshow effect options that aren't included in MF4. In my opinion PS4 might be the better choice based on what you're trying to accomplish. That said, some would say MF4 is a more robust program in terms of crashing, burning errors, etc., and overall, it covers a lot of ground as sort of a DVD swiss army knife (especially the Disc Creator version). Personally I've had very few problems with either program.

As for themed / non-themed, if I understand your question, this is just a matter of deciding whether you want the program to apply a set of predetermined production elements versus adding your own from scratch. Before diving into a serious project it's usually better to throw together a few quickie "test" projects using various feature options. That way you'll have a better idea of what to expect and can design your actual project taking this knowledge into account.

Hope that helps :-)
