I have a pioneer 220 DVD rewriter that I use for capturing my old hi 8 analog camcorder tapes so that i can edit & archive them. I feed the camcorder outputs into the video/audio inputs of the 220 & record onto dvd. It works great. I only wish I had gotten the pioneer version with the hard disk.
My question:
When I record in video mode the output files are .vob which, according to the 220 manual are best for playling back on other dvd players. When I record in VR mode, the output files are .vro. I've found that both types are recognized in VS9 & can be edited. For the record: the video playback flexibility of the .vobs are not that important because I am editing the files in vs9 for later transfer to a dvd so the mode I use is entirely irrelevent.
Is there any advantage of 1 over the other for editing in vs9?
Best file type for vs9-.vob or .vro?

I believe that the underlying video MPEG data is identical. It shouldn't matter as long as your recorder makes files that Video Studio can open. (Some users have difficuty importing DVD-VR, but it seems to depend on the particular recorder.)
I found this FAQ.
