Is there a workaround for sync loss w/MPEG and VS8 ?
Is there a viable workaround or is a lack of audio / video sync "just
the way it is" ?
I am PC based, not a techie, just trying to do basic stuff. I have been
trying to move about 22 minutes of video to a file, no editing, then
burn it on a DVD. I get about 12 seconds (or more) of audio lag.
That is.... ahhhh.... an issue.
Insights appreciated.
thanks !

Hi Kurtataltos, and welcome the the forum
I think more info was being requested -- and nothing mean was intended...
Steve posted a useful link that addresses this topic -- please have a look through that link, and feel free to post if you have additional questions.
This will be fun once you get over the learning curves...

George

Hi kurtataltos
Lack of audio / video sync is not the way it is.
There are many reasons as to why Out Of Sync audio occurs.
It may be a hardware problem, software conflicts.
Capturing using the wrong methods may result in ‘Dropped Frames’ causing OOS.
Faulty software, VS 8 springs to mind and the ‘Frame redundancy Bug’
This caused a progressive oos, increasing as the video played but only showed after ‘multiplexing’ in the burner stage. In many cases the oos was about half a second in one hour, not a lot but enough to notice lip sync.
Your 12 seconds is big to say the least.
12 seconds is really, really bad.
To solve the mystery the forum members need a lot more info.
First of all update your profile to include your pc spec’
Telling us where you are in the world will help in selecting a video template, Pal or Ntsc.
The Video File
How did you capture the video, from a Digital Camcorder via firewire, from Vhs tape deck-- Composite analogue, Usb connection (I hope not). But how?
What capture settings did you use? If you right click the video clip in the timeline or library and select properties, What are they?
During capture did you use the ‘Drop Frame Counter’
You should get no dropped frames, any is bad.
If this be your problem then for 12 seconds you will be getting hundreds.
Finally read the recommended procedure
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 6859c3e0c0
Post back your problem starting from the beginning, capture and properties.
As I said earlier 12 seconds is big, a lifetime when it comes pc speeds.
Hope this Helps
Trevor
ps (Thanks George)

Firstly my apologies I get so used to seeing the daily out of synch question
(at one time a couple of days ago the top 3 posts on the Forum Index were all relating to that same issue) and I failed to notice that your out of synch is by a massive 12 seconds.
This is not the usual out of synch issue which is frequently debated.
I strongly suspect a hardware problem and as Trevor has requested we need your system specifications as our starting point.
Following on from that we then need you to describe to us how you are importing the video into the computer the leads etc. What is the source of the video VHS, TV Broadcast, Camcorder etc.
What settings are you using eg capturing to AVI or to MPEG and things like bit rates audio format - as much as you can tell us.

Kurtataltos,
Most of us had audio/video sync problems with VS8.0 and were never able to fix them permanently.
Most of us have had NO problems like that with VS9.0.
Your simplest course of action is to upgrade to 9.0 boxed version. (or wait for version 10). Remove ALL traces of VS8 before installing the upgrade.

I do not immediately think the problem is related to the version you are using and I still have version 8 on my system. The problems with previous versions occur when you upgrade a trial version to a full version for that version number ie. Version 8 trial to version 8 full or version 9 trial to version 9 full.
12 seconds out is way more than the normal audio/synch issue where you may be at worst up to 2 seconds out. I still think we need to firstly examine your system - processor speed, amount of RAM plus your methods and settings relating to capture.
Lets try and take this a step at a time.
