Problem using hardware accelleration during DVD creation.

Post by mvnieuw »

Hi Guys and Girls,

I gotta problem with MediaStudio Pro 7.04. My PC is a really slow one when converting to MPEG-2. That is why I bought a Hauppauge PVR-350 with onboard hardware accelleration. On the box it says that it does encode MPEG-2 on a hardware chip.

Now my problem is how to get MediaStudio to understand to use the hardware compression on the PVR-350. I just can't get it to work. Has anybody have some thoughts?

When I do an export and click on properties-General tab I see the "ULead MPEG.Now Encoder" as the only option selectable.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Best regards,
Marco van Nieuwenhoven.

I don't think MSP supports hardware MPEG acceleration. I have been wondering about getting some hardware to speed things up, but am waiting for Ulead to say, "Buy X, because it works".
Premiere Pro has partnered with Matrox to produce a software/hardware solution, The Matrox RT.X100 will work seamlessly with Premiere Pro to speed up MPEG encoding and also preview rendering and realtime effects.
I'm thinking about switching over for this reason.
Sorry it's not the news you were hoping for.
Have a look on Ulead's website at their 'partner products'.

Media Studio Pro 7 or 8 Capture doesn't work with the Hauppauge PVR350. You have to use WinTV 2000 to capture your video and then open the file in MSP 7 or 8. You can then edit what you want.

I think mvnieuw is referring to the export process, after editing. When your computer actually does the rendering, and takes a while, not the capture process.

mvnieuw:

When you capture video your Hauppauge card is doing the hardware acceleration, it is converting your video to MPG, your processor is not compressing the video. Once you have the video in your computer as a MPG the Hauppauge card doesn't come into play. The MSP software is used to create video and is processor dependent.

What you need to do is to match your project output properties to your video file and use smart render.

When I use smart render and match file properties I can create a video file that has an hour worth of video in about five minutes.

So.. in answer to your original question, no, there is no way to get the hardware on your capture card to help with the export process. Sorry.
