Ulead DVD Movie Factory or Visual Studio or DVD workshop

Post by arnouf »

Hello all,

I would like upgrade my Visual Studio 7 with one of these :
- VS 9
- Movie Factory 4
- DVD Workshop 2

I need :
- capture from my DV Canon
- use transition and filter
- generate audithoring (menu for my DVD) => menu must be extensible (I would like to create dynamic menu without use an other software)
- generate VOB or AVI files to burn on DVD

What's your opinion ?
Georg

Do you work in 4:3 or 16:9 ?

It is important for DVD-Authoring.

Well, with VS9 you became a complete cutting-software with DVD-Authoring and for using transitions and filters it is ok. MF4 is an very useful Software for making DVDs but have very simple functions for editing videos. DVD Workshop ist a great DVD-Authoring-software with many features like per example complex menues with submenus on an DVD, but there is no 16:9 in the menues possible. (correct ? - I have only the german version).

ok thanks....
So for you I must choose between VS9 and DVD Workshop ?
Actually VS7 don't allow to create complex DVD-Authoring.
Does DVD Workshop allow the capture in AVI-DV format ?

Thanks for your help in my choice !

I think - VS9 for editing and simple DVD-menues or VS9 and DVD Workshop (my opinion)

Yes, DVD WS can capture AVI-DV.

Perhaps look for trials of this software and test it by yourself.

You probably need Video Studio, and you may want DVD Workshop or Movie Factory to use along with it. For me, Video Studio and DVD Workshop Express work well together (along with a handfull of other programs :? ).

DON'T buy Movie Factory 4. Movie Factory 5 was just announced!

I agree with Georg. Download the trials (or get the trial CD) and see what works best for you. It's confusing... Ulead seems to claim that all of the products can do everything! :?

Here's my Ulead summary:
Video Studio - Video Editing with some DVD authoring.
Media Studio Pro - Advanced Video Editing with some DVD authoring. (and 5.1 Ch AC3 Digital surround.)
DVD Movie Factory - DVD authoring with limited editing.
DVD Workshop Express - Advanced DVD authoring.
DVD Workshop Full - Professional DVD authoring.

No time to think.
It's like the whole world's
Out of... sync.[/i]
- Head Over Heels, The Go-Gos.[/size]

On the Ulead website, I don't find Workshop express but only Workshop 2.0.
Do you know where I can find a description of this software and prices ?
