Good value to burn a big film ?!

Post by arnouf »

Hello,

First, sorry for my english ;-)
I use VideoStudio v7. I've make a capture in DV format from my Canon MV? This film's during 1h35. The AVI file makes 21Gb. So when I ant to burn it to DVD,...it's bigger !
I can burn with VCD format : file makes 800Mb but the quality is bad.

How configure the compression to obtain a file of 3.5Go ? So I would like ot compress the file (/4) and obtain a good screen ?

Best regards

Hi Arnouf, welcome to the forums..:)

First do you have the ability to capture via firewire, (iEE1394, iLink) to DV-AVI? If so that is the recomended method. If you are are going to do any editing beyond a simple cut or two, then editing MPEG2 is not a good thing. MPEG is not intended to be edited, where DV-AVI is. Your AVI file size seems to be correct, however you don't burn that to a disc. The DVD compliant MPEG file is what you will burn to a disc.

After you have done all your editing to your file, then go to Share>Create Video, and create a video file that is DVD compliant (PAL, or NTSC depending on where you are located).

Are you trying to burn the .avi file to DVD ??

After you have edited you must then convert your file to mpeg2 for burning to a DVD

You may then have to adjust the bitrate to get your video on a single DVD

Thanks all !

I've captured the video via Firewire (DV-AVI format, cut by sequence).
I use Ulead Video Studio to insert all sequence in a same file.
I use the command Share/Create video. But I don't want to burn my DVD. I would like just to obtain the file (VBO ou mpeg file), to burn later.

Thanks to vidoman for great web links ;-)

In the Share>Create Disc (burn module) uncheck the Burn to Disc, and then click on the arrow located on the right, which will open up other burning options. You should be able to burn to your Hard drive (create Video_TS folders). Then you can use that to burn to disc later. You can also elect to create an ISO (disc image) file. This is useful if you want to make several copies, and if you want to use another DVD authoring program.

Yes that is correct, however make sure it is either PAL-DVD or NTSC-DVD, depending on what the standard TV format for where you are located. Here in the U.S. NTSC is the format.

Bad news !
With VideoStudio 7 I haven't the option mpeg2 or create disk :-(
I've only PAL DV, VCD.....
I've a menu personnalize (I translate from French menu ;-)) and I've some preselected compression : PAL DV1, PALDV2, indeo, divx...Etc but no Mpeg2.

I know That it's necessaery to buy the VS9 ! :-(

Obviously, your version of VS 7 is not DVD enabled. Did it come bundled with some hardware?

Even though I have never used it, from all the posts I have read here, I would suggest to upgrade to VS 9. That will give you very good value for money.

If, however, you would like to take your video editing a lot further, like I did, get MediaStudioPro. It's a bit more expensive but a lot more extensive

heinz-oz, you're right. The VideoStudio has been given with my video capture card...So it must be a small VS7.

I think to buy VS9.
