Thoughts on Ulead Video Studio 9...

Post by Catwoman »

I am currently a Pinnacle User :( however not very happy at all with the company and its wrongdoings to their customers. However, I am downloading the trial version of 9 to check it out. I just wanted to know any thoughts on the program that would make me want to buy it for my video editing.

1. What capturing device(s) can be used with this program?
I currently have an av/dv card, firewire, and an AIW Radeon video card.

2. Is this program very stable or does it have to have a lot of patches to install down the road as Pinnacle does?

3. I currently have smartsound, doesn't this program allow you to use smartsound quicktracks also?

4. Any thoughts, please, it would really help me in making a decision with a descent program.

Thanks,

Video Studio 9 is reasonably stable, it depends on your configuration. All the hardware you listed should work in VS9 without problems.

Smart Sounds is included in the full version of VS9, I'm not sure if they are in the trial version.

There are a few patches for VS9 but they really do fix problems.

I'm very happy with the results I am getting with VS9, others may have different opinions.

Well, that helps some thanks.
Can you tell me is this program has the pan and zoom feature for still images? And the Chroma Key Feature?

Welcome to our forum.
It has both of those features and lots more.
Video Studio includes the Smartsound collection "22k full Spectrum" containing 26 tracks.

VS9 does have pan and zoom and Chroma Key, however the Chroma Key cloth is a option you have purchase. If you already have a Chroma Key cloth then you can use it in VS9.

If you need a Chroma Key cloth Ulead sells one.

Yes Pan and Zoom still images and Chroma key no problem

I have been a user of VideoStudio since version 6 and have never had a stability problem with any version.

Customer support for Ulead is not necessarily any better than Pinnacle - but there are a lot of very nice people on the Ulead forums who will do all they can to sort out any problems you may have :D

Well, that is good to know that it has those features, as I use them often with my current software.

I do have a green screen cloth. I just got it the other day and tried it out.

I heard about another program to and I am probably going to make my decision between it, which is Cyberlink PowerDirector 5.0 or Ulead Video Studio 9. They both have the panning and zooming and chroma key and both use the smartsounds. I checked some rating reviews on these programs located at this url
http://video-editing-software-review.to ... 20software
and it shows Power Director 5.0 being #1. The only bad thing about this one is there is no forum to go on for help.

I noticed on the link you provided that Ulead did not have MPEG4 listed, it is a plugin that is current free to registered user as is the High Definition plugin.

If you are intrested in doing HD video, VS9 HD plugin works great, unlike other HD capture programs.

thanks for that info. Yeah, I had noticed that too, but if it can be gotten for S9 then that will be good.

I still need to know what type of capturing device to use with this if I go with this program? Is there a bundle pack that has a capturing device as well as the full installation of this software? Or can any of my current capturing devices work. I have AIW video card and an AV/DV card.

I have a AIW Radeon (7200) which is the very first version of the Radeon AIW card they made. It works fine with the latest ATI Catalyst (6.3)drivers and multi-media program.

I don't know what a AV/DV card, do you mean a seperate capture card or a Firewire (1394) card. If it is a 1394 card that connects to your Camcorder than it works with VS9.

Your capture devices should without any additional drivers.

The AV/DV card came with my Pinnacle Studio 9 software. It captures analog and firewire.

Capture Device

I wanted to move my 8mm video onto DVD and have never fiddled with video editing before. My video card has an s-video input but doesn't have RCA composite cable inputs so I recently purchased a ADS Tech DVD Express 2.0 which comes bundled with VS 9. Don't purchase a Dazzle DVC!!! I spent 2 weeks on the phone with support and never got it to work.

I have found the ADS DVD Express to work flawlessly and I am hving fun learning on VS 9. I wish I had initially purchased it instead of the Dazzle. The Capture Wizard provides an idiot-proof (trust me) way of moving the analog video onto your hard drive for editing in any video editing software. I also have Pinnacle Studio 9 which I have played with too  Hate it!

Good Luck[/u]
