MSP8 Service Pack

Post by Devil »

I've been authorised by Ulead to say that there is hope on the horizon.
Beta testing on SP1 will start this month. I'm informed that there will
be many features in this Service Pack, but cannot say what (because I
don't know, so please don't try to get me to give you any hints! :-) )

Because of the amplitude of the SP, I would guess that it may take quite
a lot of time to do the beta testing. Therefore, please be patient: IT
IS ON ITS WAY!!!!!

Please please please... impress upon the gurus at ulead that one of the most important things that they need to fix is the surround sound. Hey it never worked with initial release.. it still doesnt work... and they are still promoting it as a major reason to buy MSP 8.
Thank you.

oh yeah.. And Devil, thanks for all your help here in the forums. Ulead should be paying you and a few of the other folks who help here all the time. Heck.. they could pay you half of what they used to spend on tech support and you could afford to treat yourself to a LARGE fries with that next cheeseburger.

Audio adjustment

Post by usatraveler »

Not sure where to post this stuff, as it might be too late for SP1...

I'm hoping there will be a quick easy way to adjust the volume of an entire audio clip, as opposed to having to dig in to the first frame of it and bring the keyframe to the appropriate level, then go to the last frame and bring the keyframe to the appropriate level. The default should just be a Shift-drag or Alt-drag to lower the whole clip. To create a rubberbanding fade, place a keyframe. I'm sure that adjusting whole clips is much more common than creating rubberbanding effects in clips.

For some reason, the timecode in my camcorder and that shown next to the batch capture preview window are different; the difference is about 10-15 frames if I recall correctly. However, when I mark in or out, the mark is placed by using the timecode displayed by the camcorder.

The title tool should allow frame-accurate placement of the in- and out-points of title effects. The way they are now, the handles allow only for approximate placement.

There is! Use an audio filter in Effects Manager!

I agree 100%! This is something that I have emphasised for some considerable time. I have no information as to how or whether it will be implemented.

True, that does work, but I've seen much quicker, more intuitive ways to do this in just about every other piece of software I've seen. The fine-adjustment of audio levels in MSP 8.0 is rather cumbersome:
Apply filter.
Go into filter's options.
Adjust filter.
Hit OK.
NOW check the level.
Repeat if necessary.

It would be so much easier and much more efficient if we were able to:
Adjust level.
Check level.
Repeat if necessary.

Right now, we can do something similar by digging into the begin and end keyframes of each clip, but that's difficult because one has to zoom in all the way, find the begin keyframe while being careful not to click the keyframe of the clip before, and then do the same with the clip's end keyframe.

I'm not sure of the purpose of having audio clips default to having the two keyframes. Leveling (0 or 1 keyframes) should come first, with the option to add effects by adding a second keyframe.

All of this goes out the window, of course, if I have failed to find the easy, one-click way of leveling entire clips that exists in this program. If it exists, please tell me. Otherwise, if I want to finely adjust a clip's level, having to make about 6 clicks each time I want to make a tiny adjustment, then check that adjustment, is not easy. Alt+Click is not used for anything right now, why not use it to bring down the whole audio line?

Just my two cents.

This would also be a nice modification to MSP8 (borrowed from one of Terry Stetler's posts a few months back):

How about some way to enable/disable tracks so that when a source clip is dragged into the timeline, one can choose to drag only the audio or only the video into a particular track? As it stands right now, one must drag BOTH parts of a clip into a track in which BOTH the audio and video tracks are unoccupied, separate the audio and video, and THEN drag the audio or video into its desired position.

There is little point in suggesting new things for SP1. This will mainly be bug fixes, not new features. In any case, at this stage, nothing will be added, now! The next step will be debugging the bug fixes! :)

Maybe you can send your suggestions to Ulead via http://www.ulead.com/msp/feedback.htm

BTW, I agree the way to handle audio filters can be made easier, but it would require some UI redesign.

Wish for ability to update all key frame properties at once

Post by dhancock »

Is there a way to set a key frame property in the Time Control Panel for all key frames of an object in one operation? i.e., to change all keyframes to a new color it is either necessary to 1) delete all key frames, 2) set the first key frame, 3) recreate the deleted keyframes so they pick up the 1st keyframe's property values, or 1) save a color palette, 2) set each keyframe with that palette one at a time.

If there is no way to do this globally to all keyframes belonging to an object, it would be nice if it were a feature that is added sometime.

What version of MSP are you using?

In MSP8, you can right-click a key, and copy to all keys, or copy to all keys to the right of the current key, and some other options...

Thank you. I just purchased the MSP8 upgrade yesterday and have not installed it yet. I will try that today.
