No sound on PC from DVD encoded movie using Win media player

Post by jparnold »

I have just encoded a movie to PAL DVD. When Videostudio 8 plays the encoded file ALL sound is clearly heard.
HOWEVER if I play the encoded movie with Windows Media Player NO sound is heard.
I have audio format set to LPCM (as it should be).
In the past (some time ago) DVD encoded moviws played WITH sound using Windows media player although I think that I have updated Windows media player since then.
Do I have a problem? Why don't I get sound when playing movies which have been encoded to PAL DVD using VideoStudio 8 using Windows media player?
NOTE if I encode with audio format set to MPEG audio the sound IS heard when played with Windows media player.
Thanks
John

It's obviously a MediaPlayer problem. A missing codec?

Did you try MS help?

Thanks Heinz Oz
I just pulled out a DVD encoded movie which I did some months ago and it too doesn't have sound when played through Windows medi player.
It's a bit disconcerting though.
I did recently install some file which was supposed to contain 'all the codecs you need' so maybe it's the culprit.
Thanks again

Can you go back to a system restore point prior to the installation of these codecs? Would be interesting to know if that fixes it?
