How can I capture data/time and display it in Version 8?

Post by chernym »

1) I want date/time to be displayed in my movies. I understand it can be done in V9. I have v8. What can I do ? I did not see an answer in the forum regarding version 8.

2) can the "split by scene" only split by date (not time)?

Thanks!!!

Actually, it can't be done in VS 9 any better than it can in VS 8 :-)

VS 9 has an option box that allows the date/time that the video was taken (assuming you capture in .avi format - the information is apparently lost if you capture in mpeg) to be "displayed" in the preview window. But to actually get that information into the resulting video is still a manual task even with VS 9.

So any "answer" you have found for VS 9 you can safely use for VS 8. For VS 8, to extract the time/date the video was shot, you can use an external utility to discover the time and date - I can't remember what it is called - you should be able to find a reference to it using a Search.

Hope this helps,
Peter

P.S. I believe that the split by scene is done by time rather than date.

Hi,

Sorry about the rant...but this is a pet peave of mine:-)

My first ? is what are you going for here...most of us here are just going to kid's soccer games, plays, grads, etc. we have learned--hopefully-- to set our cams auto time/date feature to turn OFF after 4 secs or so....it is visually a bit disturbing to sit thru a 10 minute video of your kids grad/wed/etc and to have the overbearing time stamp in the bottom rh corner...we kinda got the point about what day it was after 4 secs or so...
kinda like taping/watching Mary Poppin's off Disney and seeing the mouse ears in the bottom RH corner for 2+ hours...we know who made this movie...
If you are going on federal raids, drug busts, anti-terrorism espionage activities etc... then by all means---and I hope someone here can help...a court of law will certainly appreciate this sort of detail...
but, for the rest of us...if your cam doesn't have auto title/date/time--and please do learn how to turn it off after a few secs if it does---just use the title function for a few secs at the beginning or end of your film...

I feel better...thanks
and I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings
