ADS Xpress and MF 3

Post by gorgonc3 »

I purchased the DVD analog to digital converter from SAM's. Came packaged with Moviefactory 3. Does this software actually work?

Can't really tell because it locks up, becomes unresponsive, or totally shuts down before it will begin capture from a VCR. I have not gotten anyfurther.

Downloaded patches, updates for all drivers from ADS, Ulead, and have ensured newest drivers for video card. Uninstalled, installed, repaired and otherwise have done everything I can think of to get this thing to work.

The CapWhiz program from ADS works and works well. Ulead does not.

I have tried this program and hardware on four different machines with various AMD and PIV processors. Same story.

Side note: I have had two other Ulead video editing and authoring packages in the past. They both did very similar things and ended up in the garbage. This one will follow soon.

Has anyone else purchased the DVD Xpress and had similar problems?

The software works. I would recommend doing all your captures using CapWiz. Then just import the captured mpeg files into a MovieFactory project and author your dvd.

Just tried that. Ulead still locks up when importing the mpegs.

Just stares at me for a while and becomes unresponsive.

Shouldn't it do what the manual says and capture from the VCR? My car has a "drive" function. It should go forward when selected. Programs should work.

Try unplugging the DVD Xpress before opening up MovieFactory. There might be a capture driver conflict going on -- so let's eliminate that issue by not having the unit plugged in while trying to open MovieFactory.

p.s. - I am more than willing to try and help, I only ask that you cut out the sarcasm...

George

Sarcasm not intended. Frustration reigns supreme at the moment.

Will try the mentioned unplugging of device.

Thanks for the help. Seriously.

You should check the ADS site for updates/patches for your capture device.

One of the first things I did. Just had to restore my system to before any of the software with this device was installed. Supreme lockup.

I will start from scratch. Follow instructions to the letter (always do!)

Will let you know how it works. For some reason my printer drivers didn't work while Ulead was installed. Now they do. Curious.

Thanks for the help. Seriously.

Restored my system to before any software or drivers were loaded.
Followed directions implicitly.

First attempt to capture video from VCR through the Xpresss box resulted in "program not responding".

Started with a fresh system on an identical computer that had just been set up with XP professional, service pack 2, no Office, printers, internet, network, etc. Just a bare 3200amdxp machine fresh from new Windows install.

Followed the instructions. First attempt to capture video from VCR through Xpress box resulted in "program not responding".

Followed instructions on different PC (Pentium IV, Compaq) that has never had any problems.
First attempt to capture video through MovieFactory resulted in "program not responding"

On all machines, CapWhiz works. Ulead does not. Will not get past Capture vidio files from device or add video files.

Updated drivers from ADS were tried (have CapWhiz 3.7.0).

patches from Ulead, when run told me once that MovieFactory could not be found installed on my machine.

Any suggestions?

I don't know what version of Movie Factory 3 you have but there are a couple of patches at the ADS site for them.
The following links are instructions on how to enable your capture device in Movie Factory 3 Disk Creator or SE

The previous page I listed has the download link to the patches.

HMMMM...... my question about others having problems has been answered by a small search of this forum site.

After searching through a bunch of the forum messages, it really looks like I'm not the only one really disillusioned by this product. Seems that MF3.0 SE and MF4.0 have had lots of problems.
Many of which I am experiencing:

1. Patch can't find installed program.
2. Video Capture - not responding
3. Windows has encountered an error - shutting down program
4. Program won't open after Ulead patch installed. (Cure from Ulead "try system restore".
5. "The create file is corrupt and unusable. It will be automatically deleted."
6. Seems MF 4.0 is no better and maybe worse.

I haven't had the opportunity to face some of the problems others have had with the editing and burning functions simply because I can't get past getting video files loaded.

The excuse that the "lite" version may have some functionallity issues with the patches is no excuse. If Ulead thinks that a buggy program is going to get someone to buy the full version, they need new marketing people. The "tasters" as someone referred to the bundled programs, just make people mad.

I am wasting too much time on this program. I am going to try once more to patch it then it goes in the garbage like so many other posted messages have suggested.

Thanks for letting me rant.

The patch won't work because it seems you have SE version, you have to donwload the SE patch from the ADS site.

You also have to read the instructions on how to enable your capture device in MF3, as in my previous post.

That does it. Just installed the "patches". You know the old joke about "how do you keep an idiot busy ....turn the page over"?

Installed the "patches", now the program just takes you back to the opening screen when you try to start a new project and choose "DVD".

It goes in the trash.

This program sucks. Do NOT purchase.

Post by gorgonc3 »

enabled capture device? I would do that, if I was able to even open to that part of the program. I am just getting a loop back to the opening menu every time I try to do anything other than close from the start menu. This is after installing the "patch" from ADS site as you advised.

This is sort of like buying a new car and having the dealer through in a broken airconditioner.

Now the sarcasm is intended.

Problem solved like one other poster did. Program trashed.

Using ADSTech DVD Xpress

Post by 2log »

If you are to use MovieFactory with the ADS DVD Xpress, you need ot select the ADS capture plug-in first before you start capturing. You do not need to install any patches. Because of Windows Updates, the patches now usually mess things up instead of make it more stable.
