Project size

Post by dp000 »

As soon as I create a brand new project, the size of the project is 700KB. Then I add a compliant 3.86GB MPG file (that will not be converted, I converted it already with TMPGEnc) and the project size is now 4.7GB. Where is the extra 800+MBs coming from? All have done is add a file at this point, there are no menus, no chapters, no extra audio... nothing.

I then tried a different smaller 2.79GB MPG file and the size of the project jumped to 3.3GBs.... 500+MBs.

What gives with the extra MBs?

Are BOTH the video and audio "template" checkboxes unchecked? Multiplexing from mpg to vob + auxiliary files in VIDEO_TS will take up some space, but I can't say how much.

Hmmmm..... the under the Audio tab, the Convert to Disc Template is checked and grayed out, and a quick look at the file, shows the audio freq is at 32Hz and not 48Hz. So that must be my problem.

Good catch, Thanks!

It's most likely going to convert your audio to your project template, and I bet your project had LPCM audio selected. Change your project settings to use Dolby Digital audio, and you shouldn't see such an increase in space requirements...

The best thing would be to make your original encoder output a compliant audio stream -- not sure if your version of TMPGenc includes Dolby Digital as an option. If not, then tell TMPGenc to output PCM audio at 48khz, and then tell DWS to encode to DD audio (you want a good starting quality if you need to re-encode the audio stream).

George
