VS9 DIES loading an .swf file

Post by eatc7402 »

I am trying out the VS9 trial edition. I have been loading various Flash .swf files with no problems. All of a sudden loading one a half dozen .swf files created in exactly the same way as others previously successfully used, if you try to preview at the loading dialog box, or load the file and then attemp to preview while in VS9...

VS9 DIES.

And gives an operating system (Win XP) wanting to send error data to Microsoft because of the error enrtountered, aparently.

I am now confused, and frusted, not knowing exactly where to go from
here.

The same .swf files that are causing VS9 to die run fine in Flash, also when tried in Flash Player, or when played in Windows Media Player, or WinAmp
all is okay.
:x

Getting WORSE!!

Post by eatc7402 »

And now....

I reinstalled VS9.

And now VS9 will NOT RECOGNIZE ANY .swf file as having recognizable video data in them. The SAME .swf file plays okay in Flash, Winamp, Media Player, etc.

NOW I AM REALLY STUMPED.

It thinks ALL my .swf files are no good.

Hi Dave,

So do you have MM Flash (whatever version)? I know there has been alot of issues with VS and recent Flash movies. I thought at one time it was due to Flashplayer 8, however that doesn't seem to be the case.

When you install VS9, it installs a version (unknown, but I think they are using version 7.00?). What may have happened is that your install ( I know that's the last thing you want to hear right now), is faulty. When you reinstalled, did you first do a complete, clean, get rid of anything that resembles, looks, acts, could be related to, or might have tried to pose as, Video Studio 9? The instructions for that are located in a VS thread. Just do a search for uninstall, and you should find it.

I was going to run it down for you, but instead I just copied and pasted it, (I know call me lazy for not wanting to search for it) from Notepad, where I copied to, so I would have it. I have found that when I come across good tips, and info here I copy them to a notepad file. Just a short time reading here, it told me I will be needing this in the future so why go hunting later....

1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.
Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.

2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system
4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar
5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
(If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove
Program, please do point 5)
6) Then reinstall UVS 9 again

No luck

Post by eatc7402 »

I followed the 'clean install' procedure exactly. Completed all the tasks required. I still have the same problem. VS9 wil NOT recognize a .swf file as 'valid and contains video data'. They are .swf files I have been using (in VS9) right along from my first day of installation (I have 6 days left in the test period) and they have been WORKING FINE. This non-recognizing problem just started TODAY, after almost three weeks of sucessfull use.

I am using Flash MX.

I like VS9, but with the several problems I have run into I am not
excactly 'thrilled'.

Suggestions? Why all of a sudden does .swf file usage go 'south'.

Swish .swf file does not work either

Post by eatc7402 »

As an experiment I exported a .swf file from Swish.

This file that plays FINE in Flash player, is not recognized by VS9
either. It would seem that it is NOT the source of the .swf file but rather
the READER (VS9) that has somwhoe become confused about how to READ
IT.

I agree that the Reader maybe the corrupt file. It may have to do with it being a Trial version also.
I have been trying to get VS9 to crash playing flash files. I exported swf files as version 4 through 8, compressed and uncompressed, placed all on the timeline. Some on the main track, some on the overlay. Some overlaying an DV-AVI file. I also threw in some of the Flash animations included with VS. I can't get VS to crash. This was also done without closing down any of the apps that I normally do when editing video.

Since VS was working, then suddenly developed this problem, something that changed on your system would be a place to start looking. Have you done any updates since the program last worked properly? Has any of your apps, like FlashMX, or Swish been updated with patches or fixes? Are you also running the current Beta version of Swishmax? This could have caused thing to go tilt. I know it has several bugs in it. I used to run Beta versions along with the public released, but have not for some time, so my system stays somewhat stable, and so I don't get confused and create a project with the Beta that may go bad, just another thought...

So it has to due partly with the system. There is something running on yours that is different then my setup, which causes VS to crash. I know in a previous post of yours, where Ken done some experimenting and VS would not crash on his system.

I know your time is elapsing on the trial, so it comes down to making a decision of buy or not to buy. I know that VS does have it's quirks, but is a real good editor for the $$. Once you get your system settled down, it seems to work great.

Problem fixed

Post by eatc7402 »

Neither VS9, Flash or Swish seemed to be the problem 'causer'. So I did a Windows XP System restore, going back several days till where I thought I remembered everything working.

Problem fixed. It now is able to recognize .swf files as valid.

What caused the problem?... Dunno.
But probably a .dll got corrupted, or went missing... as a guess.

The Windows XP system restore function has saved my butt more than once, this time included.
