Hi folks
Simple question really. Does video, whether its mpg or avi degrade with constant processing? ie:
1)Video is chopped up and produced into small clips
2)small clips stitched together and produced to form one longer video
3)Music added to video and produced again.
4)Titles added to video and produced for final time.
Is it only mpg's that possibly lose quality through producing as they are compressed formats?
thanks

When you say "produced" do you mean rendered? If so, you don't need to render each time after you add music or titles. On your original file just edit out the unwanted parts, add music and titles, then render the entire project to a new avi file. That file is then rendered to an mpeg file that can be burned to DVD.1)Video is chopped up and produced into small clips
2)small clips stitched together and produced to form one longer video
3)Music added to video and produced again.
4)Titles added to video and produced for final time.

yes mate, rendered!
Probably right, I should hopefully improve my editing technique as I get familiar with the kit!

When I was checking out various video editing programs, I did some tests, with avi. Editing avi files is supposed to be lossless.
I took an avi clip and exported it to a new avi file, making sure that any "Smart Render" feature was disabled. I then took the newly created avi file and repeated the process. I did this 10 times, so the final clip was in effect a "tenth generation" clip.
With Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2, an extremely easy to use and clean looking program, there was a very noticeable drop off in quality. With Video Studio 7, there was no significant quality loss.
I therefore decided to go with Video Studio, despite all it's annoying features.
