Hi,
Request Help or insight to problem:
History
Purchased & downloaded VS9 Upgrade from VS5 OK
VS5 still on PC OK
Installed several updates and extra packs- not all yet., but prob occur before. MP4, SONY HD PK
Have converted 10 MOV files (encapsilated Sorrinson Video & MP3 sound) to AVI. There are some lip sync issues, but are in MOV as well, but less than when in AVI.Lenth is 10 mins and get upto 4 seconds behind video.
After loading the AVI and splitting the audio track, you can change the speed of the track by using Shift-and Mouse Left Click on Track Edge.
If you "lengthen" the track IE Slow/lengthen the audio time line then all is OK.
The Problem is when you try to quicken the audio "shorten" with this method. I have found that a 2 min or less is OK, but 5 or 10 mins causes a lot of disk activity then VS9 suddenly Quits without error msg etc.
Please try with 5 or 10 min AVI, split audio track & try Shift-Click adjust the end of the audio track.

You almost got the quick fix right. Instead of lengthening/shortening the audio track, keep that at its original length. Instead adjust the playback speed of the video track to match the audio track.
