Fade in/fade out of video

Post by jwaltb »

I know this must be something simple I'm overlooking but how does one fade in from a black screen at the beginning of a video or fade out to black at the end of a video? I finally got a cross-fade going but I can't seem to attach the FX to the beginning or end of a project. Thanks for the help.

Hi Jwaltb, welcome to the forums..:)

To fade in from black, insert a black color clip in front of your video clip. Then apply the Fade to Black or Cross Fade transition effect between them. To fade to black at the end, just place a black color clip at the end, and use the Fade to Black Transition effect.

Thanks for the quick response.

Wow. Sounds really simple. Now let me REALLY sound dumb...... how do I generate a black color clip? Is this somewhere on the menus that I missed? Thanks,

You are REALLY going to hate this!

On the right hand side of the screen under the Video Studio sign, click the drop down list and select "color." Then just drag the black one on to the timeline.

Great! Not nearly as much as floundering around for a few more hours. But I do think a bit more of an explanation in the help files would've been nice.

Thanks a bunch Lance.

fade audio as well??

Post by jwaltb »

You were right. It is so simple. I just never equated "color" with adding clips to the video. Thanks again to both of you.

Is there some simple way of fading the audio track as well? I learned how to use the "rubber band" technique but wonder if there's a better way.

Hi jb

Top left adjacent to the 100 % box are ‘Fade in – ‘Fade out’ buttons

Set the duration from File—Preferences—Edit tab—default settings

I was use to using Pinnacle and did not relize in the beginning that you needed to create a blank picture (ie: clip) in something like photoimact or even paint to do a fade to/from black. I was trying to use the text function. East now.....
