Crashing Shutting Down - PI8

Post by puremood »

Hi. I have been using PI since 1998 starting with vs. 5. Now... I'm on 8 and something has caused this program to crash, shut down, etc ALL the time. I've searched these forums and can't find the solution. I've been using the PI8 for a long while and the problem just recently started.

I've cleared my cache, cookies, etc. all the above...
I've disabled windows auto upates.
I made a new temp folder under prefrences (for virtual memory).
I've ticked the limited RAM.
I've unticked the limits...
I've reformatted my PC.
I've restarted, over and over
I've cleared all my temp folders (windows, local settings)
I've preformed disk clean ups...
I've pretty much covered all I can think of and all the solutions posted here that I've been able to find.

Etc.
Etc.
Etc.

The program still continues to crash on me.

"Photo Impact has encounted a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

The data on the error report:

AppName: iedit.exe
AppVer: 8.0.0.0
ModName: pidm_browse.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.0
Offset: 00029b34

I saw one other post with this exact error http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=7722 and I follwed those steps... however, I didn't have a scanner shown as he mentioned...

Anyway, not sure what else to tell you to get some help here - but I hope someone can help. I'd appreciate it.

Uninstall Ulead.

Reinstall your Scanner software.

Reinstall Ulead.

If your problem only started recently after a long stretch of running ok, how could it be a problem with PI?

Chances are that you are running out of disk space or recently updated Windows (may happen automatically in the background if you follow MS instructions)

Since we don't know anything about your system, we cannot offer any constructive help.

keenart, I'll try that. I have an HP all in one... Thanks.

heinz-oz, Why reply if you can't offer help? The person above you had some advice so obviously it is possible someone may be able to help which is why I posted this here. My system is good and this happened after I reinstalled PI after reformatting. No other program crashes (Macromedia, Adobe, etc) just Ulead. I know I have more than enough physical and virtual memory to run the program. Thanks, anyway.

Sorry about the previous mishap, must have clicked the wrong button

Suit yourself. Hopefully the fixes offered by keenart will get you going. Have a look at my system details, short on memory? disk space? don't think so, still had the same thing happening to me recently. Good luck

I uninstalled my printer, deleted the u32Cfg.dll (there was 2) and uninstalled PI, reinstalled PI and so far so good. :) I haven't reinstalled my printer, yet. I wanted to complete my current graphic design project first.

Do you know why that is the culprit? I actually had the printer longer... and never had any issues. I was just curious as to why all of a sudden it went wack on me... I don't suppose I need to know, just wonderin'... It appear it's something to do with the scanner? Anyway........

Thanks for the help. Perhaps it's a sure fix. I guess I'll find out soon.

The DLL PIDM_Browse.dll, v 7.0.0.0 is a Windows DLL and is used in Ulead PI8 up to XL but not in PI11.

If the file is gone, reinstalling Ulead will put the file back on the drive.
Ulead will not open or function properly if this file is damaged or missing.

The u32Cfg.dll is a Ulead DLL, a configuration file that sometimes becomes corrupt.

If you reinstall your Printer software it may add an older DLL. Keep an eye on things. If the problem happens again. Uninstall Printers, Scanners, and Ulead, delete the cfg file, and then reinstall the Scanner, Printer software BEFORE you install Ulead.

If the problem happens again, search your drives for PIDM_Browse.dll to see how many copies of the DLL are on the hard drive. One should be in the Ulead Folder and if there is another it may be causing the conflict. Don't delete other copies.

If that occurs make a post.
