Heinz:

One of my favorite programs Clipboard Viewer. This program views and deletes the contents of the Clipboard, other features are available.

On Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs
Windows Componenets Wizard
Accessories and Utilities
Accessories
check Clipboard Viewer to install: sometimes it doesn't install.

OR, in the System32 Folder, find clipbrd.exe, create a shortcut on the Start or Quick Launch Bar.

Very handy program.

Thanks keenart,

I knew there had to be an easy way to clear the clipboard  just never got around looking for it.

You can only have one thing on the windows clipboard so a quick way to effectively clear it would be to simply copy something small and insignificant such as a desktop icon :D

Oh Steve, I beg to differ, the XP Pro clipboard will hold a lot of copies and you can select which ones from the clipboard viewer. Don't actually know if that only works in MS Office though. PI only accesses the last one I think but all the others are held there too. :?

The Standard windows clipboard only holds one item.
The Microsoft Office Clipboard is a purpose built one for copy/paste between the Office applications and when you close Microsoft Office you close its clipboard. You will find it only retains the last thing it copied onto the standard windows clipboard.
Try this, open Word and copy several items. close Word and open notepad and paste. You only get the last thing you copied.
Now open Word again and try a paste, you only get that same one.

Steve, methodical as ever :)

Never bothered to find out more. One thing I noticed though is this, when I do my collages, PI starts to slow down after a few copy/paste actions to insert objects into the collage, to a point where it will freeze if I don't empty the clip board. Why does it only do it after a number of copy/paste actions and not right away? :?

I have just done a trawl of the Microsoft MSDN site and read up on the Windows (and the Office) clipboards. The Office clipboard is as I mentioned specific to the Office applications and not your normal run of the mill clipboard.

I am away from my machine at the moment and so going from memory
If you copy something in photoimpact and then close the application it will display a message, you have placed a large amount of data on the clipboard, do you want to make this available to other programs.

Therefore if my memory is correct PhotoImpact also appears to have its own clipboard rather like the Microsoft Office programs.

If it was using the normal windows clipboard that data would be available anyway and the question would not be asked.

Agreed, but how come my system slows down after a few copy/paste actions and behaves normally after I close and restart again after having told the system that I no longer want that"large amount" of data on the clipboard.

Maybe we stumbled onto another bug. Can anyone reproduce this behaviour? I'm actually using PI 10 for this and work with a large canvas (A4 format at 320 ppi) and extract objects from 8 MP images to include on this canvas. I can add about 3 or 4 objects from the photos I use before I notice the slowing down.

I work with large files also in PI, some are 750 megs to a gig. I do a lot of copy. cut and paste, but don't have the slowdown. I do save a lot, other than that no answer to the solution.
