Final output quality different

ver 4, I captured some test footage in 16:9 with my sony, during the edit portion and the preview it looks awsome, very clear, not grainy, etc. Make the dvd and then it's very grainy and noisy looking? I have everything set to max quality that I could find so missing something obvious I guess???

Weird! Do you have a "regular" Sony that records AVI/DV format to tape, or one that burns directly to DVD?

It's a sony trv140, digital8 and I'm doing the transfer via firewire. It's a noticable difference in quality, not just a little worse.
