How to change clip properties regarding aspect ratio

Post by shasta »

Hi, I have a problem with the aspect ratio of a movie I have captured on a digital videocam and have imported into ULead VideoStudio ver.9. When I capture the movie and import it into the program the aspect ratio is correct, that is a 4:3 ratio. I can see the image as a thumbnail in the correct format. However, when I drag a clip to the timeline the aspect ratio changes into a 16:9 ratio, even if the thumbnail I see in the timeline is of the correct ratio. Can you please tell me how to resolve this problem?

Hi Shasta, welcome to the forums..:)

To change the Project Properties, go to File/Project Properties or Alt + Enter, then click on the second Tab, (General). Look down at the bottom of this tab, it will have Display Aspect Ratio:. It should read 4:3 . If not, (16:9), then click on the drop down arrow to the right, and select 4:3.

This is only available when your project properties are MPEG. It is better to edit DV-AVI. There are numerous posts here that advise against editing MPEG.

Hi Videoman

Are you saying you cannot select 16:9 for project properties when using Dv-Avi.

I work with widescreen 16:9 for all my projects. I capture to Dv-Avi 16:9 and have no problems setting 16:9 for all my properties.

Shasta

Are you sure your video clip is not 16:9.
Right click a clip in the library and select properties.
Do the ‘attributes’ indicate 16:9 or 4:3.

I just fired up VS9 to check, I didn't have a compression selected. Without it, I could not change the aspect ratio. I selected the type 1, and then the aspect ratio option was available....

Hi Ron

I see what you mean, I am having trouble finding 16:9 for Avi capture.

If you capture to DV rather than Avi, that is from a digital camcorder you have no problems and no settings to bother about, other than the Dv-Type. I always use Type 1.

I am not surprised that we get confused with Dv and Avi.
