HELP - Ulead Video Studio 7 SE VCD

I am new to the program. Sometimes I can view the video from my camcorder (not digital) and other times it says the preview isn't functioning. In capture, the only option for source is USB INstant VD. Anyway, I have had luck in capturing video now and again, but I cannot get the sound. At one time, it was picking up sound in the room at the time of the capture, but not from the camcorder. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks.

In general, use the special capture software that's made for your capture device (Capture Wizard?). I think these hardware manufacturers just throw-in an SE version of a Ulead product which I assume Ulead gives 'em free. (And, version 7 is a couple of years old.)

You can upgrade to the full-version of Video Studio 9 for $50.

BTW - If you have a digital camcorder you can connect it directly to your' computer's USB-2, or preferably Firewire port without using the analog capture device. Ulead will work with a digital camcorder.

Here's another issue - I think you capture device is MPEG only. (So is mine. ) I don't recommend editing MPEGs with Ulead. You can use Video Studio to make DVDs, but if you are going to edit, I recommend a special-purpose MPEG editor such as Womble ($50 - $140) or VideoReDo ($50).

So, you may end-up using 3 different programs! One for analog capture, on for MPEG editing, and another for DVD authoring & burning. This digital video shtuff is complicated!!! I use a few more programs for audio editing, packaging & labeling artwork, etc., etc., etc...
